About this Cook
I'm a married youth minister living in Austin, TX. One of my first memories of cooking is making grape jams and juice in the kitchen with my mom. Our hands would get purple squeezing the juice through cloth.
My favorite things to cook
Dinner. I like to try new things, always altering a given recipe. In general, I cook a lot of comfort food in the style of my mom- meat, veggies and a starch nearly every night. Lately, I'm big into Puerto Rican food. Yummy!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Pies, family meals, thanksgiving dinner (with sauerkraut), stews, leftovers, painting sugar cookies. The night before my mom died, I told her that I would always remember her when I was in the kitchen cooking for my family.
My cooking triumphs
Inventor of: Savory cranberry sauce, spicy veggie mousaka. I've successfully imitated Frontier Restaurant's Green Chile Stew (Albuquerque). To show off, I can make a beautiful strawberry glazed pie and a lattice sour cream peach pie. Yummy!
My cooking tragedies
Recently, I tried coconut curry for the first time. The rice, bell peppers and onions were great. The chuck steak strips were not. Next time, I'm going to add chopped grilled chicken and pineapple instead.

Pull-Apart Hot Cross Buns
Light, soft, easy, delicious. Don't leave out the cardamom. It makes them extra special.

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies
I had forgotten what scratch brownies are like- I love the crispy top and the chewy inside that sticks to the teeth! Delish! (Used half brown sugar as suggested...)

Zucchini Brownies
Don't drain the zucchini. This recipe is AMAZING. I subbed part dark chocolate powder for the brownies and icing and added a bit of almond flavoring to the icing. Yum!
