About this Cook
I'm a single female, retired, and I live alone with my two cats. My 32-year-old daughter lives close by and visits often and has dinner with me.
My favorite things to cook
Mostly Mexican food. We have excellent Mexican restaurants here in Tucson and I learned to cook the food mostly from just kind of analyzing what I was eating and figuring out how to cook it. I also like to cook desserts and have a large collection of recipes
My favorite family cooking traditions
The normal Thanksgiving meal which always includes a fruit salad my daughter and nephews named "pink stuff" years ago. To this day, they always insist on me making it. At Christmas time, my daughter says it is not Christmas until I make the Mexican wedding cakes.
My cooking triumphs
It would have to be my salsa. I even won first place in a salsa contest! All my friends look forward to receiving a jar for special events.
My cooking tragedies
Leaving spaghetti sauce cooking on the stove while I went shopping, thinking I had turned it off. Turned out, I had turned it up to high instead and had a complete mess with sooty walls and a melted pan. Thank goodness the house didn't catch on fire!

Authentic Chicken Tikka Masala
I haven't tried this yet but plan to. What kind of green chiles are supposed to be used? Raw jalapenos or serranos, or canned green anaheim chiles or something else? There are many kinds of green chiles!

Jalapeno Salsa
I'm from Tucson too! I haven't tried this recipe yet but it sounds like it could be good, especially with the suggestions given by Ellie May.

Pasta Pomodoro
I make this all the time, especially when I'm in a hurry. It takes only about 10 minutes to make. I have never used balsamic vinegar before but I'm afraid it would ruin the taste. To me, it's all about the garlic, fresh tomatoes and fresh basil!
