Angela's Oriental Chicken Noodle Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2011
I thought this was a good starter recipe. It was a little bland so I did some things to add flavor but it was still lacking something. I liked that it was a one dish meal that I could prepare while juggling the kiddo and the housework, and will definitely make it again with a few extras (chicken broth instead of water, garlic, onion, maybe some of those little corn on the cobs...and some other seasonings)

Yogurt Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2010
I didn't use all the brown sugar and used all butter (no shortening), but they came out well. I also used chocolate chip/ mint chips and added some green food coloring and they were delicious. The only issue I had was finding the right cook time. The first batch was a little underdone.

Amish White Bread

This is a very tasty and durable bread. I'm still trying to figure out how to get mine to look like the one in the picture, but if beauty isn't an issue...this bread is definitely worth making :-D

Awesome! I made half of them into crescent rolls and the other half into mini cinnamon rolls. Both are delicious right out of the oven.

Chocolate Chip Orange Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2010
Wow! These were great! I did make a few changes, basically because of what I had on hand: I didn't have zucchini so I subbed with shredded apples, Used applesauce instead of oil, 2 eggs, no nuts, and added some fresh squeeze orange juice...and when prepping I blended the dry with the wet then folded in the shredded apple, chocolate chips, and orange zest. I made 26 cupcakes instead of bread. Just sprayed muffin tins w/ nonstick spray and baked about 15 minutes. DELICIOUS!

Vegetarian Cottage Cheese Patties

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2010
Wow, I was pleasantly surprised by this recipe. I've had it in my recipe box to try for quite a while and can't believe I waited so long! I did make a few changes though...*only 2 eggs* onion mushroom soup mix (I don't like just straight onion)*no wheat germ or thyme-didn't have them on hand* added some Worcestershire sauce minced garlic and pepper rolled in Italian bread crumbs and fried in olive oil then baked for 20 minutes*mixed cream of mushroom with heavy cream instead of milk, just for fun. (I think next time I will use 1/2 the can of soup because the sodium is just too much for me.) When my husband ate this he said, "what is this, country fried steak?" I think that kind of reaction from a meat-free dish speaks for itself. Next time I will try this in a loaf. The only downside was portions-I didn't get 8 servings. Hubby and I both had two and there are two left over...so I would call that 3 servings because I don't think just one of these is enough! I served them with steamed mixed veggies and a sweet potato.

Overnight Cinnamon Rolls I

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2010
These are amazing! My husband raves every time he eats one. "They taste like Cinnabun..no, better!" These will become a signature in our home. The only change I made was to proof the yeast in the warm milk with a pinch of sugar before adding it to the flour and other ingredients. (I wanted to make sure with all the flour being used that the milk wasn't going to be too hot for the yeast to activate.) Thanks so much!

J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2010
Delicious!! I wasn't able to get mine to rise as much as I would have liked (I think that was my error in rolling them to thin or something-not the recipe itself), but the dough was very soft and easy to work with and the biscuits were very fluffy. :-D

Easy Vegetarian Red Beans Lasagna

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2010
I have made this twice and both times it's been great! We have been using beans in place of meat to save on the grocery bill and honestly, we don't miss the ground beef in the recipe! I love that the two of us can eat off of it for a few days then freeze the rest for later in the month for a quick lunch/dinner and it thaws just fine. Thanks! Changes: Omit Gruyere Cheese- topped with Mozzarella, soaked and boiled kidney beans instead of canned, 8 oz container of cottage cheese mixed with pasta sauce to layer with as well

Cake Mixes from Scratch and Variations

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2010
I made the chocolate version of this cake because, at 7 months pregnant, I have been craving chocolate cake and was NOT disappointed! I took the advice of others and used veg. oil instead of shortening and sifted the flour and other dry ingredients twice. I also tossed in some instant vanilla pudding to the mix just to see what it would do. (I know store bought cakes advertise putting pudding mix in their batter so I figured, "why not?") This cake is my pride and joy! I have never baked a cake from scratch but, once paired with the Creamy Chocolate Frosting from this site and a glass of ice cold milk, I feel confident serving it to others. It will take a dire situation to push me to buy boxed cake mix again! I can't wait to try other variations of this recipe!

Creamy Chocolate Frosting

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2010
This frosting is AMAZING!! Being 7 months pregnant I have been craving chocolate and this frosting, paired with a homemade chocolate cake recipe from this site, has definitely hit the spot! (My baby will be doing cartwheels haha). I used double butter, milk, and chocolate, but kept the conf. sugar the same. I did add a couple shakes of powdered french vanilla creamer too. All in all, there was plenty to spread on my double layer round cake and some left that I think I will spread between double chocolate chip cookies...when I make them. I like this recipe because the frosting is light, easy to work with, and resembles chocolate mousse! I would definitely feel confident serving this frosting with a dessert for dinner guests. Thanks for the keeper!

Fluffy Carrot Muffins with Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2009
This is a great recipe as is I'm sure, but I did make some modifications based on my mood/preference. 1) I used 1/2 AP and 1/2 Whole Wheat Flour 2) I used 1/2 c veg. oil and subbed the rest using ground flax seed with cinnamon (yay fiber) 3) Added raisins and walnuts to mix 4) Used a little less sugar, not sure how much just "eyed" it 5) Added a few shakes of all spice. I also made a few mini muffins so I could snack while the big ones cooled. :-D I didn't prepare the frosting since I'm pregnant and want to attempt to control myself (I knew I'd be eating as many of these as I could before my husband got to them so I figured I'd skip the extra sugar.) They taste great straight from the oven although I will experiment with freezing a few of these. *If you double this recipe, you won't regret it!* Thanks!!

Ginger Glazed Mahi Mahi

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2009
This was phenomenal! I didn't really follow the exact measurements for each ingredient, just looked at the list and added a splash and a dash here and there. The hubby said it was "awesome" and was sad that fish doesn't seem to keep well overnight once cooked :-( (I served this with mashed sweet potatoes and steamed broccoli/squash. It looked great on the plate and tasted even better!) Thanks so much!

Vegan Brownies

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2008
What a great little brownie! I'm not vegan but I needed a recipe that didn't include traditional brownie ingredients (eggs, butter, etc) because I didn't have any on hand and this recipe was a life saver! I spooned the (wonderfully gooey) batter by the TBSP into greased muffin tins and baked 20 min. Once they cool I will flatten them and top with hot fudge, pudding and a chocolate covered cherry for a unique brownie/cake treat. Thanks for the recipe!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2008
I love these cookies! I made a batch Monday...it is now Thursday and there is one left. As I type this there is a 1/2 batch of dough chilling in the freezer with the last morsels of chocolate chips I had. These are great! Once you get the cook time down they are a cinch. The only changes I made were to add 1/2 package instant vanilla pudding and subbed 1/4 c wheat flour for the white. :-D Thank you SO much for ending my search for the best choc. chip cookie!!

Sweet and Spicy Marinade for Steak

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2008
I was skeptical of this recipe because I have never heard of marinading steak in vanilla extract, but I'm glad I went with it anyway because the end result was a nice change, and very yummy! After reading another reviewer's response I decided to marinade my steak with this recipe and my husband's with another marinade, but he did try mine and said it was good! I'll be using my leftovers for steak and eggs for breakfast tomorrow, thanks for the recipe :-D

OREO® and Fudge Ice Cream Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2008
I just now served this to my husband for his 28th birthday and he said, " This is better than Carvel, Baskin Robins, and Dairy Queen!" (Even after a big steak dinner he still had seconds on his cake!) The only changes I made were to use Oreos, Pudding, and Hot Fudge that had mint in them (hubby's fav). I only ended up using 9 ice cream bars though, since it was just us two. This cake was perfect!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Pizza

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2008
This was a great dessert to accompany the pizza theme of my dinner party last night. The only change I made was adding a splash of vanilla to the cream cheese.I topped it with strawberries and choc. sprinkles instead of nuts. Next time I make this, I will take my husband's suggestion and add mint extract to the chocolate pudding to give it a little more pizazz :-D

Cracked Sugar Cookies I

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2008
I made these 2 days ago and they are now gone! (I'm actually going to make some more tomorrow to take on a road trip.) I took the advice of others and rolled 1/2 of them in some cinn./sugar but even the ones I left plain were delicious! I know it's tough but resist the urge to flatten them, they do it on their own and it's amazing! Great "cracked" look and wonderful flavor. I will use this recipe from now on-I'm thinking of decreasing the sugar and adding mini choc. chips next time! Thanks :-D

Burger or Hot Dog Buns

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2008
These were great I gave them 4 stars because the recipe itself was a great starting place but I did make some changes. First I brought the eggs to room temp by placing them in warm water and used evaporated milk instead of regular milk so there was no heating needed. I proofed the yeast before adding the milk mixture to it and then added the flours (1 c bread, 1 c wheat, 1 1/4 c AP) to that. I used the other 1/4 c AP flour during kneading, which I did by hand. I took the advice of another reviewer and let the dough rise once (for an hour) before dividing it and then let it rise again. Half of them I flattened for buns, 3 I added oatmeal and sunflowers to (for breakfast roll), and 3 I added melted butter and garlic salt (for dinner). THEY ARE WONDERFUL! I've had one at every meal since I made them (great for making little pizzas on!) :-D (and the hubby loves them too!) Will def. make these before buying buns/rolls again. THANKS!
