Playgroup Granola Bars

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2013
Made this with a couple of the suggested changes... 1/2 c sugar and 1/2 c. unsweetened applesauce. I also only baked for 20 min on a cookie tray. I was able to make these gluten free by switiching the wheat germ to oat bran and flour to sorghum. Added more dried fruit. I know it ends up being a lot of changes, but the general idea was great! Thank you.

Grand Marnier Brownies

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2008
These were excellent. Since I did not have any baking chocolate on hand I used the conversion on the back of the cocoa powder (3 Tbsp cocoa 1 Tbsp oil per square of chocolate). I also used 1 Tbsp orange extract in place of the Grand Marnier and zest. They tasted just like the chocolate oranges at christmas time. Very moist brownie. I will certainly make them again.

Coconut Macaroons III

These are the best! So easy and I get asked for the recipe when I make them. I add 1/2 tsp. almond extract with the vanilla.

Unbaked Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2008
The flavor in this was very good. However, the dough was a bit dry and I really had to press hard to make the cookies (they did stay together when cool). I did use cashew butter in place of peanut butter because I was sending them into my kids school and the school is peanut free. I used the coconut option and 1tsp vanilla as well. I think that those who said these were too sweet might have been using a heavily sweetened peanut butter, with the unsweetened cashew butter the sweetness was just on the verge of too much but still good. If I used sweetened peanut butter I would cut down the sugar. YUM!

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies

Very dense and fudgy. Added butterscotch chips for a bit of a twist. Kiddos loved them (so did hubby).

Glorious Sponge Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2008
Good. I made with 1 tsp vanilla and 1/2 almond extract instead of the lemon and it had a good flavor. I used an angel food cake tube pan (with the removeable bottom) and had no problem with sticking. I only cooked it for 40 minutes at 325, maybe those that stuck were overcooked? Needed to invert it for 25 minutes. Frosted it with strawberry marshmallow frosting (but used cherry) from this site. Yum.

Strawberry Marshmallow Frosting

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2008
I made this with cherry jello and it was very good. I did not have corn syrup so I added 1/4 tsp of cream of tarter to the egg whites. I boiled the syrup in the microwave in a glass measuring cup for easy cleanup (about 10 minutes) I also used a stand mixer. It made SOOO much frosting though. It frosted a whole sponge tube cake (glorious sponge cake from this site)with enough frosting so you could not see the hole (at least 2 inches of frosting) and had enough left over for a whole large cool whip container. I would try half the recipe next time. My son has alread requested orange jello frosting. So much easier than traditional seven-minute.

Russian Cabbage Borscht

Good. I liked it better the day after and so did my daughter. However, my husband did not care for the caraway taste (said it was too strong)

Cheese Soup with Broccoli

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2008
EXCELLENT! WE love this soup. First time we served it was in wheat bread bowls. We do not use the velvetta, instead use a combo of cheddar, motzarella and any other cheese we have around. We also make it vegetarian by using veggie broth. I wish it was lower cal so we could have it every day. It is even great the day after. YUM.

Chocolate Butterschnapps Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2008
Tastes good but I agree with the other reviewer that is more like a brownie than a cake. Also stuck in the pans horribly so we ended up crumbling it up and serving more like a dessert with the glaze over it.

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2008
Great. I added 1 1/2 t of cinnamon to the dough and did not frost with the frosting as it seemed too rich. We used a glaze of powdered sugar, butter, milk & vanilla to frost. I have made these a couple of times now and they always turn out. Very easy as well!

Freezer Caramel Drizzle Pie

Good. Like a cheesecake without all the work. My family was a bit unsure if they would like this but they really did. We needed to keep it in the fridge for about a half hour to soften enough to cut well.

Slow Cooker Stuffing

Worked great. The only change we made was no mushrooms. Excellent to save the space. We did need to take the lid off for the last 20 min or so of cooking to get a less mushy texture.

Dark Chocolate Cake I

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2008
The cake was OK, not what I would have called "dark chocolate". Not the best and not the worst chocolate cake recipe that I have made. Better once we drizzled with amaretto and added cherry pie filling and hot fudge on top.

Easy Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2007
I had a hard time beleiving the other reviews because this recipe looked too easy to have good results. However I was wrong. My kids (3&8) made this almost all by themselves and they came out great. The only thing we did differently was added 1 tsp of almond extract with the vanilla. We also used sprinkes on top. Will make again.
