Cranberry Nut Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2007
Delicious. It's a very pretty bread. I made 6 mini loaves with this batter, they took about half the time to bake, and will make lovely Christmas gifts. My husband said the taste reminds him of fruit loops cereal. mmmmm....

Dog Biscuits I

Reviewed: May 23, 2011
Very easy to make. My 4 year old made these almost all by herself and they were a big hit at her bake sale. Doggies loved them, too! We let them cool in the oven to harden them. Didn't have wheat germ on hand, so we used corn meal for a bit of texture. Omitted the garlic as another reviewer suggested.

Garlic and Leek Ditalini

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2010
Thank you for the nice simple recipe. I had a lot of leeks on hand this fall and I never cooked with them before. This was such a pleasant dish. First, I made the original recipe for myself and loved it. Then, I altered it to serve my family by tripling it, added to cooked campanelle, topped w/cheese, and baked to brown the cheese. OH SOOO YUM. This is just a suggestion, the original recipe is 5 stars just as it is.

Marshmallow Fondant

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2009
This was so easy! To those who struggled with cracking, I wonder if you overcooked your marshmallows? Just soften them so they can be stirred smooth, don't wait for them to turn liquidy in the microwave. I added regular food coloring into the marshmallows as recommended. I used my Kitchen Aid mixer as recommended by other reviewers, but found that the sugar tended to collect in the bottom of the bowl and eventually I just dumped it all onto the counter to finish kneading. I never thought I could make fondant myself, and I never expected it to be fun. Saves money over expensive bakery cakes and looks just as lovely and professional. Definitely give this one a shot. Thanks!!!!

Grandma's Egg Custard Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2009
Thank you for this recipe. It is just like my grandmothers. It is so important to add the scalded milk to the egg mixture s-l-o-w-l-y. I dribble small ladles of it while stirring constantly. It took quite a bit longer for mine to cook, but it turned out beautifully.

Pork Chops to Live For

Reviewed: May 5, 2009
I'm sorry, but I did not care for this recipe. The sauce was gritty and the onions were slimey. Overall, pretty tasteless. I hate to give poor reviews, but I have no idea why so many people raved about this.

Grilled Tilapia with Mango Salsa

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2011
I really liked this. It's a different blend of flavors for us, but very interesting, very easy, and very "summery" - we loved it. Definitely do the salsa a day ahead.

Homesteader Cornbread

Reviewed: May 3, 2011
Just what I wanted! I did take other reviewers suggestions and switched the cornmeal & flour amounts. Then I poured the batter into a preheated iron skillet with a bit of melted shortening. Was delicious with honey butter.

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2011
Great basic recipe just as it is. Reminds me of the pancakes we ate growing up. Took other reviewers advice of using room temp milk & eggs and added a drop of vanilla.

Creamy Potato Leek Soup II

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2010
Delicious, with very few ingredients. I found that my potatoes absorbed all 4 cups of broth, so I had to add another 2 cups of broth and heat through at the end. Also, I didn't have cream on hand, so I used regular whole milk and made a roux to thicken it a bit. Thanks for easy recipe.

Hearty Multigrain Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2010
Lovely taste and texture. I do not have a bread machine, so I just made it by hand and baked it at 350 for about 30 minutes. I also added some oats along with all the other seeds and grains. Yummy. Healthy. Good.

Homemade Chocolate Sandwich Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2009
Very good and super easy! I think these would make excellent ice cream sandwiches, too. After having success with Devil's Food, I tried to use Red Velvet to make a more fastive looking cookie. But the dough turned out way too sticky and I had to add lots of flour to form them into their cookie shape. That resulted in the cookies not flattening out at all which made them too bulky for a sandwich. I just put the icing on top and they are "ok" but not nearly as delicious (or as easy) as the chocolate variety.

This has a much more delicate flavor than my mother's zucchini bread. I love it. Thanks.

Mama D's Italian Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2008
I love this style of bread and the recipe and reviewers notes gave me the confidence to try it myself. I was impressed with the turnout and I've made it over and over again. A friend recently gave me the gift of "artisan bread" she bought at the farmer's market - it was probably quite pricey - it was the same style of bread, but I liked mine MUCH better! Thanks for sharing!

Peppermint Meringue Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2013
Everyone loves these and they are so pretty! A few things about meringue: it usually doesn't work out on a rainy/damp day. Use a cold bowl and room temp fresh eggs. Then, keep checking while they bake so they don't brown - turn the temp down or off if necessary. Follow the "rules" and they turn out perfect! Thanks for the great recipe.

Summer Squash Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2010
An interesting way to use up all this squash! I followed the advice of others and let the squash strain for a few hours, then sqeeeeeezed it as dry as possible. The thinner the better when you spread it out. This was a very tasty, healthy meal for us when we topped it with even more veggies. Thanks!

Basic Flaky Pie Crust

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2010
Absolutely the worst experience I've ever had in the kitchen. I followed directions exactly. I did not overmix or over-handle it. I put the shortening in the fridge the night before, I used less than 3T of ice water, and I chilled the dough disk in the fridge all day. It had the consistancy of a cookie dough, not a pie crust. I had to add a LOT more flour just to get it to roll out and then it kept breaking. I more or less smooshed it into my pie plate because I had no alternative crust on hand. I really wish I had the same experience as others b/c it looked so easy on paper.

Home Style Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2009
I've had this recipe for years and it is my absolute favorite. It does have a cream cheese flavor, so if that's not your thing you will not like this.
