My cooking triumphs
Our friends have a blueberry farm. One August, I spent weeks perfecting my muffin and pie recipes. It was fun trying different ingredients and amounts to come up with a personalized recipe. Taste-testing them was fun, too.
My cooking tragedies
We received a last-minute invitation to a very important retirement party on the same day we had invited friends to our home for dinner. I was making a potroast in the crockpot, which turned out fine, but I had begun the side dishes before we left for the party, then finished them quick when we returned home. The gravy was sticky, the pasta was tasteless, and a lot of the side dish flavors fell short. I thought the meal was terrible and our polite guests arrempting to compliment me just made me feel worse. I knew it was bad and would have preferred everyone just admit it. Had I known the schedule would be so hectic, I would have chosen more forgiving dishes. I will never try to do 2 things at once again!

Peppermint Meringue Cookies
Everyone loves these and they are so pretty! A few things about meringue: it usually doesn't work out on a rainy/damp day. Use a cold bowl and room temp fresh eggs. Then, keep checking while they bake so they don't brown - turn the temp down or off if necessary. Follow the "rules" and they turn out perfect! Thanks for the great recipe.

Baked Asparagus with Balsamic Butter Sauce
meh. after reading all of the great reviews, I was pretty excited to try this sauce. I suppose if you dislike asparagus to begin with, it is nice to have a sauce that overpowers the taste of the vegetable. But I'd much rather enjoy the asparagus roasted plain. Thank you for the recipe, I think I was expecting more.

Grilled Tilapia with Mango Salsa
I really liked this. It's a different blend of flavors for us, but very interesting, very easy, and very "summery" - we loved it. Definitely do the salsa a day ahead.
