Perfectly easy, forms well, travels well, tastes great. Will replace purchased cheese spreads in my house.

Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball

Reviewed: May 21, 2008
This was really good, regardless of shaping issues. I actually doubled the recipe and used the same amount of butter, but it was still quite soft. I made it the night before, and froze until just before serving. I think I will experiment with eliminating the butter completely, because I feel that it is simply unnecessary. Just makes the cheeseball greasy. And perhaps reduced fat cream cheese could be used if the butter were eliminated....regardless, it's delicious, you can't argue with chocolate and cheese! YUM.

Apple Crisp III

Reviewed: May 17, 2008
I added some salt and honey bunches of oats cereal to the topping for texture, which made the dish. I had to leave it in the oven for about 15 extra minutes and butter/flour/sugar mixture still never got really golden brown, but it's still delicious. I'm glad I have the crunch of the cereal though - I think I would miss it otherwise.

Apple Hermits

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2007
very good recipe. As a nutrition student, I am always looking for ways to make sweet things more healthy, and in this case I substituted applesauce for half of the butter. It tasted perfectly buttery, and had a nice consistency. After, I realized that I could have also reduced the sugar. I will next time.

Easy Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2007
I was craving some cookie dough and this hit the spot. The cookies are in the oven right now, and I bet they will be delicious. I added some lemon extract for extra flavor, and salt because it was way too sweet without it, although they ARE sugar cookies.

Apple Crisp II

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2007
this really wasn't very good. I should have followed directions and halved the amount of water. Regardless of that, however, the cooking time is also VERY off, and even though I sliced the apples very thinly, they were tough and rubbery and hard to eat instead of tender like apple crisp should be.

Banana Chocolate Chip Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2007
I don't know why, but I think it tastes like chocolate chip pancakes. with bananas. which I think is absolutely fabulous! I made it thin, I'm not really sure why but I liked it. three ripe mashed bananas. was gooey and delicious, and I ate about a sixth of it before anyone else had a bite.

Raspberry Oatmeal Bars

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2007
made these to cheer up a friend who doesn't like cake on the one year anniversary of our friends' death. Substituted a mixture of homemade Nantucket beach plum jelly and black raspberry jelly for raspberry, and added some lemon juice, as the whole thing is extremely sweet. Just a suggestion: you may want to add more fruit filling, as the top and bottom are the same mixture, and can overpower the jelly. They were loved by the cake hater!

Emily's Famous Marshmallows

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2007
I made this homemade marshmallow to replace a marshmallow topping for s'mores pie that used 5 egg whites, because I didn't have that many. Despite some difficulty getting the gelatine to dissolve, it ended up making a LOT of tasty marshmallow. I added extra vanilla, because I really like it. In the end, I only have one small warning - beware of the extreme stickyness! I've found that it's easier to cut the marshmallow if you run a sharp knife under hot water then dry it off (otherwise the marshmallow will stick to it and you will NEVER get it off cleanly)

French Baguettes

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2007
I may have done something weird with this recipe without realizing it, but I ended up with extremely thick crunchy crust (not a problem with me, I love the crunch) but a rather wet middle...it was alright though, everyone still loved it!

Garlic Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2007
I will admit that I made some changes, but it was absolutely delicious! As I did not have chives, I used your regular italian herbs: parsley, oregano, basil. Also, I added EXTRA garlic, garlic powder, and a little onion powder for good measure. I decided that it would be strange as a loaf, so once the dough was made I took it out and made cloverleaf rolls (three small balls of dough in every muffin cup) which broke into three perfectly seasoned, flavorful bites! the texture of the rolls was absolutely perfect, and they tasted even BETTER than traditional bread with melted garlic butter, as the seasonings are baked into every single bite! it was delicious, my family requested them the next day, and my boyfriend even chose them to be part of his coveted "fourth meal". This is definately a favorite, I'm hanging onto it. Thanks so much!

Gelatin Divinity

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2007
oh wow. I just got finished fighting this out of the mixing bowl and it is delicious! although quite the sticky confection, it is really tasty - reminds me slightly of saltwater taffy without the salt mixed with marshmallows...I guess I'm just a northerner new to divinity, but it is definately an entirely new type of candy to be made in my kitchen. I used sugarfree cherry jell o and it made no difference (obviously, since there's three cups of sugar already!). I'm already considering a batch of lime... So I have learned that I don't like divinity after it has set. it's just too sweet for my taste, as well as everyone else in my house.
