About this Cook
Every since I was a little girl I would love to cook and bake. My grandmother on my mom's side was a very good baker, she was known for her pies and her bread in the small town where she worked and lived. My grandfather on my dad's side worked in a restaurant as a young man in Pittsburgh. So I guess I am blessed with good "Cooking genes". In a world of "take out" I still like to be domestic. My son and husband enjoy the benefits of that. I am in the Food Service Dept of the Middle/High School in my area. I have been married for 21 years and I have a 101/2 yr old son, I also have 2 dogs. (1 beagle& 1 bassethound)
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake bread, cakes, cookies, pies and I like to try alot of Italian and comfort food recipes....
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love making my husband's grandmother's Guelette cookie recipe. It has been in the family for many many years. The only thing that I do different is that I have an electric iron in which to make them. I love to cook Italian family recipes.
My cooking triumphs
I have won blue ribbons for two of my apple pies and for a Hershey's chocolate cake @ a county fair nearby my town
My cooking tragedies
You have to have some tragedies in order to suceed in any cooking or baking. I have had a few and probably will have more in the future......

Tonya's Terrific Sloppy Joes
I made this recipe tonight for dinner. My husband and son really liked it. It would have been good the way the recipe was written but I made a few changes. I only used 1# of ground meat which was venison, and I added chopped sweet peppers along with the onion and celery. If I can sneek veggies in I do. I thought it needed more of a saucy consistency so I added more ketchup and brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce and omitted the lemon juice simply b/c I didn't have any on hand. There wasn't any left. I will jot this down on my recipe cards for a quick go to fast recipe. Thanks for a great recipe!!!

Baked Teriyaki Chicken
I made this for dinner tonight, and I have to say my husband,my sixteen year old son and myself enjoyed this a lot. The sauce went together very easy, I think I may try like other reviewers rice vinegar and fresh grated ginger , maybe an extra tbsp. corn starch because, I felt it could be thicker. My son like it so much he scraped the empty platter to get the extra sauce off for his rice. I have cubed venison steaks that I will make using this sauce and I'm sure it will be spot on. Thanks for a great recipe Marian!!!!!

Pork Roast with Sauerkraut and Kielbasa
I made this today for our New Year's dinner. It says to cook it in a crockpot. However, mine won't fit the roast and kielbasa. So I salt and peppered it on both sides and browned it on all sides in my Dutch oven and then removed it to a plate so I could brown the kielbasa. When I was finished I put a bed of sauerkraut on the bottom and added the pork roast and kielbasa. then top it with the rest of the sauerkraut and the and fresh thyme sprigs. I cooked it on 325 degree preheated oven for 3 hours. it turned out beautifully, moist and tender. I will never cook my roast any other way.If your slow cooker won't fit all of this don't worry use your Dutch oven you won't be sorry. Also I used a little bit of brown sugar to my sauerkraut.
