About this Cook
I am an internal medicine physician assistant & have loved to cook ever since I was a little girl. Family meals were always an important part of my family growing up, and new recipies were always being tried. Although during college I did not have much time to cook, I have picked it right back up now that I have graduated.
My favorite things to cook
I have always loved to bake, and to this day this continues to be my passion. I have entered various baked goods into local fairs and have won several ribbons and awards. I also love to have friends and family over for sit down dinners, and enjoy cooking fancy gourmet meals. However, baking will also be my favorite!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother is Russian, and I can remember back on the days before Christmas and Easter cooking traditional Slovak & Russian foods. To this day these traditions remain alive, but now it is just me and my mother. Holding onto family heritage is so important, and there is no better than than through ethnic foods.
My cooking triumphs
Winning first place in many local fairs from various baked goods. It's nice to know that others enjoy your baking! (sometimes I think family tells you that it is great when it really is horrible)
My cooking tragedies
Well, the worst would have to be when I was a little girl and I was making christmas sugar cookie dough. I didn't realize at the time that using an electric beater in a teflon bowl was a bad idea. Not only did I ruin my mother's pot, but I also incorporated a large amount of teflon chips into the cookies!

Whipped Cream Filling
I used this to top my key lime pie, and it held up great for several days. I did this through a piping bag without any problems. I would also recommend increasing the powdered sugar. One word of caution is when buying the cream; I first bought ultra-pasteurized heavy whipping cream and it would not whip. The second time I bought just regular heavy cream and it was perfect. I did some research online and multiple sites state not to buy ultra-pasteurized as this causes the cream to lose the ability to whip.

Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Excellent recipe! This is the second time I have made these, and the first time they were a huge hit. I have used a pyrex dish over a pot with boiling water as a makeshift double boiler, and it was worked just fine. For anyone making them the first time, white chocolate is a bit more difficult to melt than the milk chocolate, and you may need to add a tiny bit more shortening. Also, the first time I made these I used Ghirardelli chocolate chips (white/milk). The second time I used IGA milk chocolate chips...huge difference! Although they set, the chocolate did not set as well. Spend the few extra dollars and buy the better brand chocolate...its worth it in the end!
