Baked French Fries I

Reviewed: May 21, 2008
These are absolutely delish! I doubled the olive oil to 2 Tbsps. and added a shake of salt and pepper. (Plus, I already had all the ingredients on hand. Added bonus!) I learned the first time that 450 for even 30 minutes is waaaay too long, so now I cook them at 425-450 for 20-25 minutes and they come out PERFECT! Sprinkled with Lawry's seasoned salt and a side of ketchup, these make a GREAT snack or side dish! My boyfriend thought there was too much chili powder, but I love the wonderful flavor and wouldn't change a thing!! Thanks for sharing with us!!

Misti's Dried Herb Salad Seasoning

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2008
I made this tonight for my pasta. I didn't put in parmesan cheese (because I don't like it), I cut back the salt to 1 1/4 teaspoons, and added a pinch more pepper. After using it on my pasta, I do believe that it had a little too much garlic as I ate my dinner a couple hours ago & the garlic aftertaste is still very strong. But all the other herbs compliment eachother very well and I had all of them already in my cabinet! Thanks Misti for this great herb mix!!

Ranch Dressing II

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2008
I was excited to make this recipe as I love ranch dressing & making it at home without all the preservatives is always appealing. I just got done with it, and of course, I had to taste it before I put it in the fridge. I didn't want a thick veggie dip, so I followed someone elses advice and used 1/2 cup mayo, 1/2 cup milk, and 1/2 cup sour cream. It ended up like ranch water! VERY runny, so I added in a little more mayo. It doesn't have the taste I was hoping for. The aftertaste tastes more like ranch than when you first put it in your mouth. Maybe I should have used buttermilk, and I will try it again that way. But as for the way it is now, I will not be making it like that again. It's pretty though!!!!

Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2007
My boyfriend made these for Christmas to go with a bottle of red wine and they were absolutely delicious!!! Way better than the chocolate covered strawberries we got at the Marriott when we got the "couple's package" last Valentine's Day!! I would make these anytime, but they would be great for a romantic evening in, with candlelight and a bottle of wine!!

Ginger Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2007
I cut the recipe in half, only making 15. I substituted a 1/4 of a stick of butter for shortening and had to use dark corn syrup (1/2 cup) because I went to 2 different stores and they were both sold out of molasses. I kept all other ingredients and measurements exactly as the recipe states and they turned out beautifully!! I love gingerbread but I didn't want to mess with making "gingerbread men," so this was a delicious alternative! As another reviewer stated, the ginger flavor isn't as strong as I thought it would be. I would suggest adding a little more. They rose alot more than I thought they would (a pleasant surprise!) But they taste great, look great, and I WILL make them again!! Erlene, thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe!

Orange Cilantro Rice

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2007
I was so disappointed with this! I finally got the time to prepare it tonight, and the only plus about it was that it was quick! I like the taste of orange juice, but 1 and 1/2 cups was just waaaay too much! And I browned the rice and simmered for 20 minutes (as the recipe states) and it was still crunchy and undercooked. I felt as though I was eating uncooked popcorn kernals! Despite that, I took a couple more bites but the OJ was just too overwhelming! I hope my garbage disposal enjoyed it! I'm thankful this was cheap to make, otherwise I would be thorougly disgusted! It might be delicious for someone else, but not my cup of tea!!

Fresh Tomato Salsa

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2007
Wow! This salsa is amazing! I only let it sit for 45 minutes instead of an hour, I couldn't wait any longer to taste it! I read other people's suggestions about lowering the amount of peppers, so I only put 1 in (the b/f doesn't like extra spicy food). I put in a pinch more cilantro than the recipe called for simply because I love fresh cilantro. This is a wonderfully delicious recipe & I always love when I can make something fresh instead of buying it in a jar with perservatives in it. My boyfriend hasn't tasted it yet, but I know he's going to love it! Thank you so much for sharing this tasty recipe with the rest of us!! 5 stars!! Delicious!

Bean and Tomato Stew with Sage

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2007
I just finished eating a bowl of this stew. I'm a vegetarian, so this dish is perfect for me! I've never cooked with sage before, but both the smell and taste are absolutely delicious! I couldn't find the cannellini beans called for in the recipe, so I went on the advice of someone elses previous review and bought garbanzo beans. I am NOT a big bean eater, but the ingredients sounded delicious together. I loved the tomato, sage, and thyme flavor combination, but I was not crazy about the beans at all! (I doubled the recipe to 8 servings, which called for 2 cans of beans. One would have been more than enough for me.) The sage gave it a nice winter-time taste, but I will probably not make this again unless my boyfriend requests it. It has a great flavor, but not too crazy about the beans! I substituted chicken broth for white wine, and it tasted fine that way, but I would recommend cutting back a little bit on the olive oil.
