My cooking triumphs
My latest has been a beans and rice recipe that I got off of here, I added some bits and bobs, and it turned out GREAT!! Also my hybrid Thanksgiving turkey recipe, part Alton Brown, part Tyler Florence, it ALWAYS comes out deeeelish, although it is an AMAZING hassle to cook!
My cooking tragedies
THE WORST was my first (and LAST) attempt at cooking squid....eeeeeeeewwwww!! And to cap the tragedy off nicely, I cooked it for a family that I was working for at the time!!! So much for impressing the boss! ;-)

Sweet Russian Cabbage Soup
This soup was absolutely WONDERFUL!! I made a couple of little changes, first of all, cut WAY back on the sugar. I only used 2 TB. Second, used 3/4 head of cabbage and shredded it. Also upped the vinegar and used red wine mixed with apple cider as I ran out of the red wine vinegar. I upped it to 1/2 cup, as I like a bit of a sour twang. Leftovers were even better!!!

Slow Cooker Carnitas
This was a great recipe to cook up and portion out in freezer bags to have on hand for other recipes. I made just a few minor changes. First, I used the boneless pork rib meat because its what I had, and it is amazingly cheap as well. Second, I cut way back on the cinnamon as I thought it would be overpowering otherwise. Just a pinch was all it needed. Otherwise, wonderful recipe and am planning on a repeat performance tomorrow.

Ground Beef and Sausage in Red Beans and Rice
I made this the other night as we needed a good budget dinner for the fam. We all enjoyed it, but I did add some seasoning. I used a cajun seasoning mix, and added about 1/2TB. or maybe a little more. This might not be to everyone's taste, but I would definatly recommend some sort of added seasoning. Also, please cut WAY down on the rice, as that amount of raw will give you 3/4 GALLON of cooked rice!!
