Dr. called yesterday and told me that the everyone who had the scoliosis surgery at my age (54) always was worse off after surgery.  He has recommended pain management.  Will find out next week about that.

I would certainly avoid that Doctor. Maybe it isn't how he said it, but it sounds like he doesn't want to be bothered. If he hasn't had success with people your age (not old enough to put to pasture) then seek a second opinion with a better doctor. I'm not saying you should have surgery, just be sure it is the right decision, and not just the personality of the doctor. You are doing really well with your Weight Watchers Diet. Keep doing what you are doing, definitely find out about pain management too, and try to get in a pool to aleviate the stress on your back.

Thanks Daiseyland. You are so right. I found out where to call about the water aerobics yesterday. They are closed until Monday so I'm calling Monday morning. That Dr. said paralysis was sometimes a side effect of that surgery. That scared me!

As a former medical student that DR is essentially right. Back surgeries on scoliosis that occur long after the body has adjusted to a crooked back often cause more pain.

About Me
I am a housewife. My husband is the sweetest, funniest, and most loving husband in the world. I am a Christian and I love my Lord. I love to cook, crochet, cross stitch and quilt. I have 2 daughters, 2 son-in-laws, 2 grandchildren, 2 more on the way and 3 in heaven. I go to Weight Watchers with several of my friends. My husband eats what ever I cook so it's easy to cook my WW meals. This site is very helpful to me. I can use these recipes and change ingredients to make them WW friendly.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook anything. I just love to cook! I cook American, French, Italian, Asian, Thai, and Mexican. My husband says I hardly ever cook the same thing twice. I love to use good dishes, use cloth napkins, have flowers or a candle on the table. I just love to make everything look nice for my husband and family when they are here. I love to cook soups. A good bowl of soup is a great beginning course. It warms you up and fills you up so you won't be so hungry when the main meal comes. That cuts back and helps me with my WW points. I just love to cook everything!
My favorite family cooking traditions
On my daughters birthday's, I always try to cook them my home made chicken pot pie and a pot of my beef stew. On Thanksgiving my daughter and son-in-law has a throw down. Last year it was cranberry sauce. It is always fun. My oldest daughter always cooks the turkey and my son-in-law always carves it. I always do the dressing and tomato cheese grits. My Mom always does the sweet potato casserole. My youngest daughter always brings roasted brussel sprouts, a pumpkin and a pecan pie. At Christmas we have a meat and cheese tray, chips and home made dips, and assorted desserts. On Christmas the kids have so many places to go, we just make it simple. On my husbands birthday my daughter always makes him a carrot cake. He looks forward to that all year!
My cooking triumphs
My Mother-in-law always made the best chicken and dressing! I knew I had made it as the best dressing maker after she passed away. The whole extended family came to my house for Thanksgiving and my niece asked how Big Mama's dressing got there. Everyone told me how good it was and how much it tasted like hers. They didn't know that I went to her house and watched her make chicken dressing every time I knew she was cooking it.
My cooking tragedies
The first time I cooked a turkey I thought the longer you cooked something the more tender it got. DRY!!!DRY!!!DRY!!! That was 36 years ago. I think I'll cook a turkey this weekend for some good sandwiches!
