Grandma's Chicken Noodle Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2014
Ok, but needed some adjustments. Added garlic, carrots, dash of oregano and dash of basil to the ingredients. Omitted celery, salt and cornstarch. Used 2 vegetable broth cubes instead of chicken broth. Cooked pasta with soup, rather than cooking it separately.

Roasted Brussels Sprouts

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2009
I have always been a bit leery of brussel sprouts...since it was the holiday season, I decided to give them a shot. We parboiled the brussel sprouts after removing any yellowish or loose leaves for 2 minutes, tossed them in a ziploc with the rest of ingredients and then onto a cookie sheet. Added some chopped garlic to them as well. Cooked 25 minutes at 400 F. Tasted good and my husband who loves brussel sprouts said these were the best he'd ever had!

Crepes

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2009
Good recipe. Made three changes: 1. Used bread flour instead of all purpose as that's what we had on hand 2. Used butter instead of oil (melted butter before whisking into dough) 3. Didn't bother refrigerating it at all (too hungry to wait so just whisked it all together and threw it on the pan). Great with a savoury filling!

Gnocchi with Sage-Butter Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
I made this with Trader Joe's portabello mushroom ravioli instead of gnocchi. Very good.

Jamie's Cranberry Spinach Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
I made this for the first time last week...and my husband has asked me for it every day since. Great way to get him to eat the spinach! I made the following changes: left out the poppy seeds and onions, substituted "regular" white vinegar for white wine vinegar, added extra cranberries and I threw the salad dressing ingredients into a glass jar with a lid and shook it rather than whisking it. Found it easier and probably just as tasty.

Rich 'N Thick Hot Chocolate

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
Great tasting recipe. We halved the recipe to make two servings, substituted 3 TBSP of cocoa and 1 TBSP of butter for the 1 oz of bakers chocolate, melted the butter first and then added the water etc, doubled the vanilla and added 2 TBSP of Torani hazelnut syrup. Yum!! Would probably also be great with some espresso mixed in, but that idea is for another day!

Portobello Mushroom Ravioli with Prawns

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2008
Good recipe overall-made a few changes to it based on what had on hand. Left out prawns and used regular button mushrooms instead of portobellos. I also increased the amount of lemon juice to one whole (small) lemon. I also added parsley and basil to the sauce while it cooked for additional flavour. Once the raviolis were done I topped them with tomatoes and roasted red pepper. One thing though-the sauce took longer than stated in the original recipe to cook down. In fact it's still a little watery even after close to 10 minutes of cooking. For this reason, you may want to wait until the last few minutes before beginning to cook the ravioli (the ones I used were frozen spinach and cheese raviolis and cooked in 4-5 minutes). Good recipe overall though:)

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2008
Fantastic recipe! I added more nutmeg, vanilla and cinnamon to the recipe. Even though I used more of the caramel sauce on the apples, rather than on the crust, it still overflowed. Make sure to place something beneath the pie pan while it's in the oven to catch any potential overflows.

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies III

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2008
We love these cookies! I add more vanilla and chocolate chips to the recipe because we like our cookies sweeter. Pay close attention to the cookie time as these can burn quickly!
