Greek Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2012
I had a problem with grill flare ups when making this. What wasn't charred beyond belief tasted wonderful. Have to figure out how to grill this stuff without the flareups.

Apple Turnovers

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2011
I think this was a good recipe but I also think that 1 cup of brown sugar was a little much. Next time I make these, I will cut back the sugar and add more cinnamon and maybe a pinch of nutmeg.

Teriyaki Marinated Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2011
I added just a little bit of ginger and I made a second batch (without the oil) for after cooking. We cut up the chicken and put it on skewers and grilled them. I cooked up some veggies and rice and used the extra sauce to pour over. It turned out great.

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2010
This recipe was a good compromise between me and my husband. He prefers sweet corn bread and I prefer the not so sweet. This was a pretty good combination of both. I cooked mine in a glass pyrex dish and it turned out with a nice crust all around. I followed the recipe exactly and it was perfect.

Bubba's Jambalaya

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2010
I liked this recipe but I had to make some changes to it because of my families distaste for seafood. I left out the shrimp and I forgot to pick up ham and crushed tomato so I used 1 lb of andouille sausage and a little over a pound of chicken and 2 cans of fire roasted diced tomatoes. I also had run out of beef broth so I used 4 cups of chicken stock instead. We also used penne instead of rice and reduced the simmer time accordingly. Overall, it had great flavor and it's an easy recipe to make changes to according to personal tastes. It tastes even better the next day.

Authentic Louisiana Red Beans and Rice

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2010
We loved this recipe. It was nice to have for a change instead of making it from the prepackaged stuff. It did make quite a bit however so there were plenty of leftovers that went to waste.

Crispy Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2010
I attempted this recipe the other night and the first batch came out fine. After that, the coating kept falling off the chicken as it was cooking. Any ideas how to keep that from happening?

CARNATION® Famous Fudge

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2010
My great grandmother used to make fudge for the family every Christmas. When she passed away, everyone missed her fudge and no one could figure out how she made it. I made this recipe with a few minor changes and it was pretty darn close. My grandfather even called me to tell me how much he enjoyed it. This is a great recipe.

Caramel Apple Pie I

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2009
The only reason I didn't give this one a 5 is because it turned out a little on the soupy side. The overall taste was amazing. I did add a little more cinnamon than called for and about a tsp or so of all spice. We topped it with a scoop of french vanilla ice cream and it was really tasty.

Spinach Cheese Manicotti

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2009
I followed the directions but I used fresh garlic instead of garlic powder. The filling seemed really dry for some reason. The flavor overall was okay but not the best I have ever had. It seemed a little on the bland side.

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2009
I have been a little timid to make any type of zucchini bread because my husband always talks about his mother's. Well, I finally gave this recipe a shot and it is a new favorite. My 2 year old son is gobbling it up too. I didn't make any changes to the recipe but I may try a touch of nutmeg or allspice next time.

Baked Spaghetti

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2009
Pretty good basic baked spaghetti recipe. People that thought it wasn't that great have to remember, people's tastes are different. Be creative and adjust things the way you like them. For instance, I added green pepper, a couple cloves of pressed garlic, some course ground black pepper, sea salt (instead of the seasoned salt), and the basic Italian seasoning while cooking the hambuer. For the cheeses, I used a mozzarella and provalone blend and shredded parmesan asiago blend. My husband and 2 year old loved it!

Sausage Sauerkraut Supper

This was pretty decent. I liked it and I made it hoping that my husband would enjoy it but (as with anything) he didn't like it. Oh well. It's good for me at least.

Grandma's Sloppy Joes

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2008
It was okay. I have never made Sloppy Joes from scratch before but these ended up way too sweet for our taste. I am going to have to tinker with the recipe next time I try and make them.

Easy Lasagna I

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2008
This was a pretty good basic recipe. I used 2 packages of ground sweet Italian sausage and omitted the mushrooms. I also used 2 jars of pasta sauce. While cooking the meat, I used chopped garlic and onion with some different spices. There wasn't enough kick to it so next time I will probably use one package of the hot Italian sausage and one package of the sweet. I will probably use two pints of ricotta next time instead of using the cottage cheese (It made the dish way to runny).

Cold Day Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2008
I have tried and tried for 4 years to find a chili recipe that my husband wouldn't complain about. I finally found it. I made a few minor adjustments to it. I doubled the recipe and used 2 cans of Kidney beans and 2 cans of Pinto (that's the way my hubby likes it. I also used chili pre-seasoned diced tomatoes and added 3 cloves of garlic (pressed)while cooking the meat. Everything else stayed the same. It had the full chili flavor that my husband likes and a little sweet taste that I like. Good recipe!
