I followed a lot of the reviews and added cinnamon and nutmeg to the batter. Diced 2 apples and shredded a third. For the topping I doubled the recipe and also added some oats to make it more crumbly and less sweet. I put half of the topping in the middle of the muffin also. After 20 minutes they were still gooey inside so I left them in for another 10 minutes at least. Perfect!
