About this Cook
A guy who knows how to cook - and bakes too! As soon as people find out that I actually have some culinary "skills", they freak out - the old stereotype of "men being only good at BBQ" still stands strong... I don't mind though - it's nice to have a few "secret weapons" at your disposal ;););)
My favorite things to cook
Just about anything... Each time I try something new, I try to use it as a "learning" exercise - and I have been successful each and every time due to the (sometimes excessive) amount of effort (and prep work) put into it!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I'm sure that we do have some - but I have picked up my skills fairly independant of my family. "Family Dinners" and special occasions (and Holidays) always provided a great variety of cuisines and tastes - but most of my personal cooking has come from "fending for myself". There's only so many ways to make "Kraft Dinner" - so I had to come up with some new ideas. Trust me - I've probably tried about 50 different variations of that "bachelor classic" ;);)
My cooking triumphs
My "Pan Shortbread" recipe passed down to me (from my Grandma) - is in High demand from absolutely EVERYBODY!!! I've gotten so good at making it, I can tell JUST by the feel of the dough how well it is going to turn out... Hopefully it will get posted sometime - I made the mistake of submitting it in the middle of LAST summer ;);)
My cooking tragedies
Luckilly, these have been few and far between - they usually come from lack of preparation (missing a crucial step), or poor choices when making substitutions (such as Margarine for Butter in certain cases)...

Joel's Jerk Chicken Pineapple Pasta
Quite tasty, but it seemed to be missing a little something...

Jager Bomb
Always a LETHAL combination - but these are much better when made with only 1/3 of a can of Red Bull... Not only do they go down easier that way, but it doesn't mask the Jager as much. But then again, some people might prefer it this way ;);)

This one is sort of like a cross between a Jager Bomb and a Timmy's run (Tim Horton's for the uninformed - or Starbucks if you MUST)... Perhaps it should be renamed the "Great White North Jager Bomb" ;);)
