Cakes In A Cone

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2011
Theis looks amazing! My couple of changes were that I just baked the cake in any pan and shoved it in the cones once baked. Cones held up better that way and I didn't have to worry about overflow! Also, I just did regular icing in a zip-top bag with a relatively large hole in the corner. When piped in a circle, the icing looks just like soft-serve ice cream! I topped it with a strawberry malted milk ball (as a cherry) and took them to school for a "cupcake walk" in music class. I was an instant rock star!

Cake Balls

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2011
These were amazing! I made them twice and the first time they fell apart when I tried to dip them in chocoalte. I found the key to be to FREEZE them before I dip them in chocolate. When I did that, they were prefect!! They are great to take to an event and have a huge "wow" factor! (Sticks were hard to find. My first catch, I used large wooden coffee stirrers. I did find the real sticks at Michaels) My one box of cake and one can of frosting made 55 cake balls. Maybe they were a bit too small... I used a cookie scoop so they would have a flat base. They were all the same size and I did not get as dirty when I rolled them by hand!

Molasses Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2010
Couldn't stop eating them! I was originally looking for a sugar cookie, but found this instead and am SO GLAD that I did. Totally forgot why I wanted the other one! Will make this often!

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2010
I had really high hopes, but it took almost a cup less flour and came out very dough-y. It tasted a little raw. I even left one loaf in to cook (the other was already cut) during our dinner and after 30 more minutes of cooking, it still was way too dense and their were raw spots. I was really hoping to find bread that was so easy, but this was not it.

Homemade Pancake Syrup

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2009
I changed nothing and the kids prefer this to the stuff I used to buy so I always make it now! I have doubled this and there was no difference. I have already made it three times and I expect to make it again tomorrow.

Marshmallow Crispie Bars

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2009
I made this twice. The first time, following another reviewers suggestion, I added more cereal and it was way too dry, but the second time, I followed the recipe exactly and it was amazing!!! The vanilla is the key to making it extra special!

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2009
These cookies tasted AMAZING. I was looking for a recipe that stayed a little sharper on the edges after being cut out, so I could at least pretend they were professional cookies and these spread a little too much for that. I tried to use a cupcake cookie cutter and the kids thought they were houses. But, like I said, they tasted wonderful! If I was doing just round cookies, these would be it!

Lemon Pepper Green Beans

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2009
Had this for dinner last night and it was a HUGE hit! Kids even said they preferred it to our regular way of preparing green beans! Will definitely put this in our regular rotation!

Boston Cream Pie Minis

Reviewed: May 20, 2009
These turned out pretty good and were *exactly* what I was looking for! My son asked for these specifically when I said he could take any cupcake to school for his birthday - weird kid! Although the chocolate was good - it WAS chocolate after all, I would make it richer next time and that is the only reason it is not 5 star.

Coconut Cream Cake I

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2009
I made this for Easter (2009) and it was FABULOUS! I am not a huge fan of coconut, but my husband and 2 (of 3) sons are, so I made this for them and even I enjoyed it quite a bit! Since I wanted it to be pretty, I baked it in 2 8" round pans instead of the big one it called for. I used the whipped cream in the middle and did the rest of the icing as directed. It was maybe the prettiest cake I have ever made. The one change I did make was that I didn't know what "coconut cream" was and it was not with the canned milk at the store, as I expected, so I bought a package of coconut cream pudding, prepared it, and used it instead, with the canned milk, to infuse the cake. It turned out amazing! I did it on a rack over a pan with edges so I could get it off and do it again... Maybe it turned out too thick, who knows, but eventually it all went in and was amazing!

Candy Bar Ice Cream

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2008
It tasted great, but I followed the recipe (scaled down to 1/4 because I was just testing it out) and my ice cream freezer said 30 minutes and after 75 minutes, it did not get even slushy, let alone like ice cream. It tasted good and was OK after I stopped the ice cream freezer and just froze it, but I was hoping for some soft serve and that never happened...

Oaty Cereal Bars

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2007
I just made this yesterday and LOVED it. It was so good I have already made it a 2nd time! I know it is supposed to be for breakfast, but my kids think it is a dessert, and I am not going to tell them any differently! It was a little thin for my liking, si when I made it a 2nd time,I put it in an 8x8" pan and the thickness looks perfect! When I did it in a 9x13" pan (tupperware container) it did not quite fill it up, so it was a little thin and didn't stick together well (but it tasted great and set up like a charm). I think next time I will try it with another cereal, although I have a LOT of Cheerios! (small kid...)

Fruit Salsa with Cinnamon Tortilla Chips

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2007
I make something very similar and it is great! I serve it with graham crackers, instead of the tortilla chips and chop everything with my chopper (tupperware) and it is so easy. THe problem is keeping the fruit around long enough to make it!
