Army SOS Creamed Ground Beef

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2008
This does not sound great, but I really like it. I used cream of mushroom soup instead, and added some worcestershire. It was great comfort food, nice with rice, noodles or potatoes. The kids like this too!

Nany's White Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2008
I was looking for a dense yellow or white cake to serve with strawberries and whipped cream, and this is very close. It went over well as our Easter dessert, this recipe is a keeper as it is so quick and easy.

Butter Chickpea Curry

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2008
This is very easy and delicious. I left as is using milk to keep the fat down, and add extra spice and carrots. I have made this many times, it is a favorite in our house. I serve it with tandoori chicken.

Chocolate Ganache

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2008
Easy and delicious. You tailor the richness or sweetness by the type of chocolate you use. I used a dark bittersweet and whipped it. It was divine!

Cold Oven Pound Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2008
This was wonderful, with a couple of changes. I used all butter, left out 1/2 cup of sugar, and 1/4 of flour (but I think it would have been fine with the extra flour). I also added caraway seeds, but thats a personal thing! It came out moist, dense but not heavy and flavorful, just the way pound cake should be. It tasted my my grandmother's lost recipe. This is the best pound cake I have ever made.

Pumpkin Roll I

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2007
I didn't change a thing, it came out perfectly. I used a slightly larger pan than it called for, and it still was thick enough. This absolutely dissappeared, will make again!

Old-Fashioned Vanilla Pudding

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2007
Excellent. I have been making homemade pudding since I was kid, and this is a nice one. I did use less butter than it called for, only 1 tsp vs 1 1/2. It was creamy and delicious. I added toasted coconut to make it coconut pudding. This is a keeper.

Big Soft Ginger Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2007
These were very good, everyone liked them. I added a tsp of fresh grated ginger and an extra 1/2 of ground ginger, I still thought they could have used a tad more spice though. Nice and soft, quick to make. I roll mine in raw sugar. Will definitely make again.

I made this for my BIL's birthday cake-he loves lemon. We all really enjoyed this cake. It was moist, slightly dense and lemony. A very nice lemon cake. I added extra lemon zest.

Decadent, rich tasting, makes an elegant fisnish with a caramel sauce to an adult meal-I added some grand marnier to give it that extra something.

Playgroup Granola Bars

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2007
We loved these, I left out 1/4 cup of the brown sugar, they were plenty sweet. I used ground flax in place of wheat germ, whole wheat flour, and used a combo of dried blueberries, cherries and cranberries in place of raisins. The kids had them eaten in no time!

Sukhothai Pad Thai

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2007
This was really good, pretty authentic taste. However, that said, I had no tamarind, so I left it out and used some lime juice. I also left out the radish(didn't have it), and added some chili paste, I added a couple of tablesppons of fish sauce and 2 tbsp of natural peanut butter. This tasted just like the pad thai I had the previous night at a restaurant!

Heavenly White Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2007
This is the same recipe from a 1950's cook book called Blue ribbon birthday cake. It was always our cake recipe Mom used when we were kids. However, mine came out like a sponge cake for some reason. Not quite like how I remember it. The whites may have not been beaten well enough.

Iced Pumpkin Cookies

Reviewed: May 20, 2007
These combine some of my favorite flavours, pumpkin and spice. They are good as is, but I have since made a more nutritious version, where I substituted applesauce for the butter and added 1 1/2 tbsp of oil as well, used whole wheat flour, and 1 cup of brown sugar, packed, in place of 1 1/2 cups of white, and added 1/2 tsp of ginger. They are still delicious and are healthy enough for my kids lunches.I did not bother icing them, they did not need it.

Nutburgers

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2007
These were so tasty, but I had trouble with them falling apart and being slightly dry. This may have been my fault for overcooking a bit or because I used less cashews and added some almond butter in place as that was all I had. The flavour was great though-I will make again. These seem to freeze well too.

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Colossal Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2007
These are essentially monster cookies, which I love. I agree with others, 1/4 cup levelled is enough, don't flatten them too much. I give it 4 stars because I made two changes: I substituted 1/2 cup mashed bananas for the margarine and used 2 cups packed brown and only 1/2 cup white sugar.I also threw in a tablespoon of ground flax. Wonderful! Also a silicone bakers liner makes removal so simple.

English Caraway Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2007
This is memories from my childhood. My mom has misplaced her recipe so I was glad to find one. It's flavour was perfect, and I went heavy on the caraway seeds, but I found it dry. Next time I will add a bit less flour and see if it helps.
