One Bowl Chocolate Cake III

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2007
Very good cake recipe. This is the recipe that is on the back of the Hershey's cocoa box.

Mom's Warm Milk

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2007
Very good! I kept everything the same except I didn't measure the nutmeg & added cinnamon. I just added 2-3 shakes/sprinkles of each. It was a really nice warm drink that won't keep you up all night (like hot chocolate!). Thanks! *I also tried this with lowfat milk & Splenda instead of sugar to cut the calories & fat. It didn't change the taste.

Pizza Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2007
Very good! I made a few small changes - whole wheat penne pasta & pizza ingreients we like - pepperoni, hamburger (1 lb.), green pepper, small can of diced olives, 4 oz. of pineapple tidbits. I used pizza cheese blend for the top. Great tasting!

Maraschino Party Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2007
Very good! I followed the first reviewer's suggestion and halved the recipe (except for the cherry juice - kept the same and the cherries - doubled). I didn't make frosting and the cake tasted really good by itself. Great cherry flavor and nice, light cake texture. I'll try it again sometime with frosting.

Apple Banana Smoothie

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2007
Changed a few things based on what I had on hand: juice was strawberry banana, apple was Granny Smith. Also addede 1 tbsp. flax seed. Tasted great! Next time I'll double the recipe so we can have more!

Beefy Rice Salad Sandwiches

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2007
Great recipe! So far we've just tried it cold (refrigerated the mixture) in warm pitas. It was flavorful but not overpowering. The fresh parsley added some great flavor and the avocado was a nice addition. I definitely recommend this recipe.

Easy & really good. I added cooked ground beef to the vegetable broth while it was simmering. The whole family really liked it.

Hamburger Gravy

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2007
My husband and I liked this recipe. I thought my two little boys would like it but neither of them cared for it. I served it over mashed potatoes. Next time, I might try it over wide egg noodles. It was really simple to make the gravy.

Vegetable Lo Mein Delight

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2007
Really tasty! The only subs. I made were omitting the onions (I used some dried onion flakes instead) & I used frozen sugar snap peas. The crunchy chow mein noodles really add to the taste of this dish. Even the kids really liked it!

Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2007
Very good! I used Italian (oregano, garlic & basil) tomatoes since my little ones don't like things too spicy. I used kidney beans for the chili beans.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2007
Very good! I tore (using 2 forks) the chicken into pieces after it had cooked for a while and then stirred it all together. I also added vegetables as other reviews have suggested. I cooked the mixture w/out the biscuit mix for 2 hours and then added the biscuits and cooked for 2 more hours on high. I've tried this w/ adding a can of broth and then adding the water and I think I like it better w/ just water. If you like things saltier add the broth. Also, using 1 can cr. of celery & 1 can cr. of chicken works great. ** Tried it again - this time w/ butternut squash, celery, carrots. 5 frozen chicken breast tenders. 1 can cr. of chicken & 1 can broccoli cheese soup. 1 cup chicken broth. 1 cup water. Cook for about 9 hours on low. Shredded the chicken after it was cooked. 1 can biscuits (flattened, seasoned w/ pepper & sliced)on top - cooked for 30 minutes. It was delicious!

Easiest Pot Roast Ever

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2007
Excellent recipe! I've always made my crockpot roast w/ cream of mushroom soup and I liked this even better. It has a better homemade taste.

Musaka

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2007
This was really good & hearty. I didn't have many of the spices. I just put in about 1/2 tsp. of pepper & 3/4 Tbsp. basil. Cooked it on the stove until the potatoes were mostly tender and then cooked in the over at 350 for 45 min. I really liked how filling it was & inexpensive. I really liked the taste - the yogurt gives it a little zip. I served it w/ french green beans on the side which worked great. The casserole could have been a bit dry w/out having the green beans to mix in as you eat it. I'll definitely make it again.

Bean 'N' Beef Crescent Pie

Really good & easy. I used 1/2 can of refried beans (a little more than the recipe) and served with sour cream, salsa & olives to garnish. The whole family liked it.

Split-Second Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2007
This was good - kind of like a sugar cookie w/ raspberry jam. I accidentally melted the butter and it still turned out fine. Easy to make. I sprinkled powered sugar on them when they were cooling.

Banana Chocolate Chip Dessert

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2007
Good & moist! I rated 4 stars since it was so crumbly and I wouldn't say it was the BEST banana bread I've ever had. I made it in a 9x13 pan (as another reviewed suggested) and cooked it for an extra 15 minutes (test the center w/ a knife or toothpick). I only added chocolate chips to half (sprinkled all over the top) since I would rather have just banana bread but the kids would love chocolate chips. Nice snack for the kids. I'd make it again.

Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2007
I thought the bread was dry. Flavor was pretty good. It tastes much better (not as dry) if you eat it warm and with butter on it. I made it just as the recipe called for except I couldn't find chunky applesauce so I used a little over 3/4 c. applesauce and added about 1/2 cup of chopped canned apples. I may try it again with more applesauce and not bake it for the whole hour. Baking at an hour didn't make it burnt but maybe that added to the dryness.

Warm 'n Toasty Cheddar Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2007
I didn't care for this at all. Way too much Ranch dressing and so it tasted REALLY strong. Also the topping was so thick on the bread (large french bread split in half) that while the edges of the bread were starting to burn under the broiler the topping was barely even warm. If you simply must try this recipe I would suggest less ranch dressing and using dressing that is at room temp. so it warms more easily. Perhaps you could also cover w/ foil and cook for a while & then put under the broiler for a few minutes.

Beef Tips

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2007
This was really good! I used a non-stick pan & Pam and cooked the beef. I didn't use onions (added dried onions later). And I added frozen peas. I cooked it in the crockpot and then froze it and it turned out great. Served over rice.
