Chewy Brownies

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2013
Used butter instead of oil and skipped the glaze. Baked for 28 minutes in metal pan. Delicious. Husband loves them, too. This will be my go-to recipe from now on.

Cut-Out Cookies in a Flower Pot

Reviewed: May 11, 2007
Very good. I also sandwiched the stick between two 1/4" cookies before baking and baked about 12 minutes.

Emily's Famous Chocolate Shortbread Cookies

Reviewed: May 7, 2007
Substituted 1/2 c more cocoa for 1/2 c flour, added pinch of baking soda. Melted the butter, mixed the wet ingredients, sifted the dry ingredients together, added the dry to the wet. Chilled it for about 30 minutes. Rolled 1/4 inch thick. 1 1/2 inch heart cookies took 6 minutes, 3 inch heart cookies took 8 minutes. These are sturdy enough to use in cookie bouquets. I did not add chocolate, but piped icing. Excellent flavor. They are better after several hours rather than straight out of the oven.

WWII Oatmeal Molasses Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2007
I followed some of the other reviewers' suggestions and used butter instead of shortening, used 3 T regular molasses, added 1/2 tsp cloves and 1/2 tsp cinnamon, left out the nuts and doubled the raisins. These turned out very good, my husband likes them, and I will make these again. I was looking for an oatmeal raisin recipe to make for a friend and am glad I found this recipe. My yield was over 6 dozen cookies.

Chocolate Chip Meringue Drops

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2007
Very good. For the first batch: I let the egg whites sit out and come to room temperature; used Ghirardelli baking chips (chopped up because they are bigger than Nestle's choc chips) and started eating them after 1 hour of cooling. Second batch: put the eggs in a bowl of hot water for 5 minutes before separating to warm them; substituted chopped walnuts for the choc chips. Got about 30 cookies out of the first batch, about 25 out of the second. Will definitely make these again.

Apple Crisp IV

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2007
I halved the recipe except for the apples and only put the mixture on the top. I softened the butter in the microwave until it was almost all melted. Used a mix of Granny Smith and fuji apples. Sprayed the 9 x 13 baking dish with PAM. This was a big hit at church, and received compliments from young and old. This was a hit with the friend who can't have dairy and two other friends who wanted something with fruit. My mother used to make apple crisp when I was a kid and this is the closest recipe I have found.

Rich Cheesecake Bars

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2007
If you are looking for "cheesecake" this isn't it. If you are looking for a Gooey Butter Cake that is better than Entenmann's or Haas, this IS it! I only had an 18.5 oz super moist yellow cake mix so I used that and doubled the rest of the ingredients. Baked it in a glass 9 x 13 pan a little longer than the original baking time, until it tested done. After it had cooled, I sprinkled it lightly with powdered sugar. I took it to church -- here in St. Louis -- and it was a HUGE hit! I will definitely make this again, and again, and again!

Very easy, very good. Husband and friends really like them. I drizzled some of the leftover chocolate on top to cover the toothpick holes. Will definitely make these again.

Angel Cookies II

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2003
Very good taste and husband also likes. Delicate flavor and texture. Dough was hard to work with: too much quantity for my stand mixer and even though I chilled it overnight it was hard to handle. Next time I will make 1/2 batch.

Good recipe. Almond flavor is nice. Better when pulled out of the oven when just barely starting to brown around the edges. A definite keeper.
