Me, my son and Jessie the dog
About this Cook
I am a single mom of a 12 year old son. I have 2 jobs, so I don't have a lot of free time, but I like to cook good food when I can and my son really loves to eat. I have been cooking since I was about 9 years old because I lived with my Granny who was blind, so I learned to do it all early on.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook anything that does not require exotic ingredients, just basically things you would normally have on hand. I also love to bake and cook for other people.
My favorite family cooking traditions
When I was young, we always had a big family Christmas dinner at Grannys. She died when I was 19 and the family just did not get together after that. Since my son was born, we started a tradition of having Christmas dinner at my house and inviting everyone over. That way he has a tradition to look forward too, and leftovers!!!
My cooking triumphs
I finally made homemade biscuits just a few days ago. They came out perfect. I had tried them 2 times before, years ago but they did not turn out right, but now I think I have it.
My cooking tragedies
I have 2 both involving turkeys. I was cooking Christmas for my family and was cooking the turkey in one of those disposable aluminum type roasting pans. Well I guess it had a hole in it and it leaked grease on the hot stove eye and almost started a fire. The next incident (involving a turkey) was when I was cooking Christmas for my soon to be in laws. I finished cooking the turkey and put it on top of the stove - no problem. Well I have those covers on the stove top and after a few minutes it fell off and the turkey went sailing across the room toward the door. I picked it up quickly (it was hot) and only told my parents (the floor was clean!!!). It sure was easy to carve. I am divorced now, so that makes it extra funny.

My Kid's Favorite Pork Chops
We all loved this. I thought my 12 year old son would make him self sick, he ate so much. It is really good and the sauce has just the right consistency. I cooked mine for close to 2 hours and the meat was very tender. I did not change a thing. Now my parents want me to cook it for them and invite them over. Great recipe.
