Petra's Strawberry Shortcake

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2013
This was my first time making strawberry shortcake, and this turned out great! As Allison did, I halved the cake and put it back into the pan, layered it with strawberries and syrup (from frozen) in the middle, and then topped the cake with whipped cream and fresh strawberries. It received rave reviews at my party!

Easter Egg Nests

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2008
Incredibly cute, and great if you're just going for looks. However, people were kind of unsure of what the nests were and were hesitant to eat them.

Simple Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2008
The powdered sugar gave these cookies a different texture than I'm used to, but I followed the recipe exactly and they turned out quite well! If you like crispy sugar cookies, I'd definitely recommend trying these!

Sugar Cookie Slices

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2008
Great recipe! I used a non-dairy margarine to make these safe for a friend with allergies, and they turned out wonderful! I didn't roll or chill the dough and instead made drop cookies, each about a rounded teaspoon. With this method, I didn't have any problems with crumbly dough like the other reviews mentioned.

Flourless Chocolate Cake I

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2007
I followed the directions as written, except for substituting 4 oz. of semisweet chocolate for bittersweet and it turned out great! Easy to make, delicious, and can certainly feed more than 16- about 1/3 of the cake easily fed 7 people, so I would estimate at least 20 servings.

Chocolate Caramel Brownies

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2007
Easy to make, and definitely worth the extra effort! We accidentally added too much butter (a cup rather than 3/4) but they still turned out great, although probably mushier than they should be. I would suggest following other reviewers and baking them in a 9x9 pan, as they were fairly thin and the batter was hard to spread over the larger area. I'll be making these a lot more in the future!

Half and Halfs

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2007
These were definitely a hit! Slightly more difficult to make than a normal chocolate chip cookie, but worth the effort!

Gingerbread Biscotti

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2007
This recipe tasted great, and was a major hit. However, the texture was off each time I made it. The first time was slightly underbaked, causing the cookies to hold together better without being as crisp. The second time, when they were fully cooked, they were fairly crumbly, but still good for dipping. Definitely a recipe that I'll try again, though!

Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2007
This recipe was wonderful! Fairly easy to make and it turned out really well. The first time I made it, I didn't have all of the spices on hand, so I substituted 2 tablespoons of pumpkin pie spice, and both loaves were gone within a day.

Easy Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2007
I followed the recipe as written. The dough came together nicely and was easy to make, but my 5 taste-testers and I found them to be fairly bland. We ended up putting frosting on them, which improved them, but I'm going to keep looking for a sugar cookie recipe.

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2007
I made this recipe as written, and the cookies turned out great! I made the dough the night before and refrigerated it overnight, which made it easier to roll into balls. I did have to flatten the balls during cooking so I didn't end up with a round cookie, though! They were gone quickly- my roommates loved them!
