Buche de Noel

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2012
FAIL PROOF ... but Wow was it LABOR INTENSIVE!!!! I think when decorating I went overboard and simpler is better. You also need a really nice platter which I didn't have. Haven't eaten it yet.

Mother's Applesauce Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2012
EXCELLENT! The only changes were No dates. We used a mixture of English and BLACK WALNUTS.... and no icing....instead dusted ours with powdered sugar to resemble snow. We baked ours in a NW mold for 60 minutes. See the pboto of our Christmas Cottage shaped cake.

Good. But I don't like honey that much. I prefer topping it with Pumpkin Spice coffee Creamer and sunflower seeds.

Delicious Raspberry Oatmeal Cookie Bars

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2012
Very tasty but I used part applesauce and part butter and mine wasn't crispy. Oh, how I wish they were crispy. Also, mine came out thicker than those in the photo for some odd reason.

Simple 'N' Delicious Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2012
VERY GOOD ! very easy...just warmed up some brewed coffee leftover from breakfast. I don't like super sweet deserts and this one is VERY CHOCOLATEY ....I did make a buttercream icing... used more cocoa than sugar in the icing because I added chocolate syrup to it. MY ONLY COMPLAINT... it makes a rather shallow cake for my 9 inch round cake pan (used new baking soda so that wasn't the problem). Done at 25 minutes.

Strawberry Cake from Scratch

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2012
VERY GOOD but I used it for a checkerboard cake and the strawberry part was more moist than the yellow cake and didn't rise as much. I didn't use the whole packet of gelatin for this reason....because I didn't want that weird gelatinous consistency but it still was a tad overly moist. Very good strawberry flavor however.

Just okay... but to be fair used grnd turkey and I didn't have catsup. Since it was a bit bland... I Added chopped garlic and a teeny tiny bit of BBQ sauce and hot sauce . i prefer to make this with condensed tomato soup.

Very Good and I hate oatmeal. I definitely would recommend cooking the pumpkin with the oatmeal.

Peanut Butter Cake VI

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2012
VERY GOOD. VERY MOIST !!!! Not dry at all. I cooked mine in a loaf pan (see photo). ONly a slight Faint peanut putter flavor to the cake part. Peanut Butter ICING reallyl gave it a peanutty taste. I halved mine (1 1/8 c flour, 1 c sugar, 2/3 c peanut butter , 1/2 stick butter 1/2 c oil, 1/2 c milk, 2 eggs etc)

Chocolate Zucchini Cake III

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2012
VERY CHOCOLATEY and moist. I did cut the oil to 1 cup. 2 cups would've been WAY too much....THIS CAKE DOES NOT NEED ICING. icing is really guilding the lily..... The only down side to this cake is that my zuchinni was visible. It doesn't show in the photo, but it was visible . Maybe if I had peeled it? or maybe if I had pureed it?

German Sauerbraten

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2012
WOW! made if for Dad's 83rd BDay per request. Did change a few things... used Chuck Roast, cut it up like stew pieces first and browned it. Didn't use cloves (Dad doesn't like them) and went with 20 ginger snaps. Used only one cup of vinegar (too lazy to marinade the meat). The Gravy was SO DELICIOUS. I hated Sauer Beef until we made it using this recipe.. .I think it was the Pickling Spices that won me over.... after pressing him, Dad did admit that his Mother used to put a spice bundle in there . Dad thought we'd mess it up but HE LOVED IT. VERY VERY GOOD !!!!! Thanks Cathy.

White Chocolate Fruit Tart

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2012
UPDATE: I made this a 2nd time. The first time it was very good but the crust didn't get brown and it was too thick. 2nd time I swapped it with this website's Down Under Lemon Tart Crust and it WAS SO MUCH BETTER. It made 2 nine inch tarts (if I pressed the crust thin) . So, I divided the white chocolate filling between the 2 tarts and the proportions of filling to crusts were PERFECT~ not too much crust (as before) and just the right amount of filling. Topped with Fresh Pineapple, Strawberries and Blueberries ... nixed the kiwi and mandarin oranges which weren't that tasty last time.... PLEASE TRY IT WITH THE DOWN UNDER LEMON TART CRUST!....if you want a light flaky, crispy buttery crust that actually browns.

Fruit Pizza

My First time trying Fruit Pizza. This was a very easy recipe. And I had a nice result... the pizza looked great. I cut the slices before adding the creme and fruit. My family liked it but it was too sweet for me.

Garbanzo Bean Chocolate Cake (Gluten Free!)

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2010
Nice chocolate taste. Problem with mine was I don't have a food processor so I mashed the beans by hand. As hard as I tried there were still tiny chunks of garbanzo beans. So the texture was way off in my cake...... If I try again, I will use a softer bean (pinto or black beans). I've made cakes with them before, and those have always mashed into the right consistency.

Ham and Bean Soup II

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2010
This is almost the same as we've made for years. VERY GOOD.... but one trick we've found is to either add a 1/2 bag of lima beans to the others, or a can of butter beans drained and smushed. It makes the soup thicker and creamier.... especially if you're in a rush.

Pistachio Bundt Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2010
I was a little worried about this cake but it was delicious. I made the evening before St. Patricks Day. It had a very nice Pistachio Flavor and was moist and had a good dense texture. I did add a little butter and reduced the oil a little. No need for a glaze . The only problem I had with it was the cake mix taste which I guess is unavoidable.
