Janet's Rich Banana Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2011
I try a million recipes on this site. Most will alot of success. I however very rarely rate recipes or write a comment. I HAD TO write a review for this recipe. I have made many banana bread recipes and never have I had such success. This was the best banana bread I have ever tasted. I made the recipe exactly as it stated. Baked it for exactly the same amount of time. It smelled like it was starting to burn because my whole house had the wonderful aroma of banana bread. I thought, oh no, I ruined it! NOPE, I checked on it and it was fine. After baking for 60 minutes, I let it cool and it sliced up really nice. It wasn't crumby or gummy. Perfect slices of perfect bread! Thanks for the amazing recipe. I will use it for the rest of my life!

Delicious Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2008
Amazing. WOW. This is the best bread recipe period. YOU MUST TRY THIS. I used only 1c sugar and 1c brown sugar instead of 3c sugar. I used 1/2c oil and 1/2c applesauce instead of 1c oil. I added more cinnamon and cut out the ginger because i didn't have any. I melted a little butter and mixed it with a little brown sugar and when the bread was out of the oven, i poked holes all over and poured the butter mix all over. YUM.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2008
WOW. Great recipe. I followed it exactly but added 1c. more sugar and did not sift anything. I chilled the dough for like 5 hours and rolled it out with powdered sugar. They baked at 350 for like 5-6 min. in my oven. They are SOO tasty. chewy and crispy, yum. Alot of people complained that the dough was sticky. Any rolled cookie dough will become sticky when it warms. work with this dough a little at a time and don't be afraid to use alot of powdered sugar when rolling. The dough won't get to dry and you can't see the white of the powder after they bake. This will surley be the only sugar cookie recipe I EVER use again.

Penne Pasta with Spinach and Bacon

Reviewed: May 28, 2008
In my opinion, this recipe was a little off. I followed the recipe to the T. The only thing I changed was, I added onion, roasted red pepper, fresh tomatoe instead of canned and grilled chicken. The dish was way too greasy and heavy. Maybe it was because the bacon I used was not quality bacon. It was too smokey and the flavor was....not a hit. I suggest using high quality bacon. Make sure the spinach doesn't overwilt, pour out a little of the bacon grease and add a little pasta water, add fresh basil, some shreaded parm. and maybe a differant shaped pasta would help too. Sorry to leave a bad review but I was very disappointed with this recipe and this website hardly ever produces a dish like i made today. Procede with caution, because it does have potential.

Cabbage Fat-Burning Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2008
This soup is SOO GOOD. I did however add a can each of, black eyed peas, white beans, red beans, and lima beans. I used canned carrot (2c). # med. sized onions and omited the celery and pepper because those are nasty (in my opinion). I also added 3c. barley to it but had to also add more water. How much? A BUNCH. It made so much soup that I had to make 4 trips to the fridge just to put it away. It was soooo good though. OH also, I used 1 small green cabbabe and 1 small red cabbage. GREAT GREAT GREAT. The only seasoning it needed was pepper. I also added some crushed red pepper. Made it with low sodium v8 and low sodium beef broth. Also used 2c. diced tomatoes...If you do add beans like I did, don't forget to rince them off.

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2007
This is the best cookie recipe ever. I used m&ms and WOW. Other's said they had a problem with them getting had the next day. If that happens. Put them in a container with a half of a slice of bread and that will keep them soft and chewy. Its a little secret that works great.

Soft Chocolate Mint Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2007
I was a bit hesitant to make this cookie. I wasn't impressed with the reviews. However, my little brother picked it out to make. So, we made it. Needless to say. This cookie was GREAT. I added choc. chips (any candy would do, but candy is definatly needed to make this cookie out of this world). I didn't have buttermilk so i mixed a cup of milk with a tsp of vinager and used 1/4 cup of it like the recipe called for. This was a great cookie. Soft and chewy with a slight crunch. Mine didn't turn out really cakey like others said. I let my dough cool though in the fridge. Almost tasted like mint brownie cookies. I will definatly be making these again.

Unbelievable Rolls

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2007
This is the BEST roll recipe I have ever tried. And it was soo easy. I agree with other users. Don't add the salt to the liquid mix, add it to the flour and stir it around. If you add it to the yeast mix, it might screw up the whole recipe. Only heat the mix on the stove to about 150 degrees. When you add your eggs it will cool off a bit. Don't add the yeast if its too hot. The wet mix should be just warm on your finger. Follow the recipe exactly though. The rolls were flakey and great. I brushed mine with melted butter when they came out and everyone was shocked that I baked something soo good.

Cream Puffs

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2007
I made this cream puffs last night and let me tell you what I do. I made the shells as the recipe said. I don't add sugar or vanilla or anything else to flavor my shells as the filling is usually soo sweet. Be carefull not to add your eggs right away. Let the rest of the batter cool down or your eggs will start to cook or "scramble". After the eggs are combined, I spoon the mixture into a freezer bag and cut off one corner and pipe the "dough" onto my cookie sheet. After my cookie sheet is full, I dip my finger in a little water and push down the top just a little (so it doesn't have that hershey's kiss top). Then, I sprinkle a very little sugar on them right befor I bake them. Normally I bake them on the middle rack of my oven and only for about 15 to 20 minutes or untill they are golden brown. Take them off the cookie sheet asap and with a knife, cut a slit into the side of the cream puff. After they are completly cooled, I make up some instant pudding mix (any flavor, and maybe add some cool whip with it if I have it on hand) and spoon the pudding mix into a freezer bag, cut off one side and gently pipe the pudding into the slit I had made earlier to let them cool. And TADAA. You could drizzle some melted chocolate on top if you want or even frost them. but trust me. They are FANTASTIC. You really can't screw up a cream puff. I hope this gave some of you ideas.

Self-Filled Cupcakes I

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2007
These cupcakes are just okay. I would have rather just made the box cupcake recipe and not have went through the whole cream cheese trouble. my filling sank, And that wasn't ness. a problem, but the choc. chips don't melt, and they give an odd flavor. The filling is very plain and I even had one person ask me if they were still uncooked in the middle, which they wern't but it was just the filling, it was goopy. They did tast good after I frosted them. But not worth the xtra effort.

Amish White Bread

This is such a delish. recipe. This is the only bread recipe I have ever made and although I am willing to try other recipes, this one is my favorite. It always turns out great and perfect. It tastes a bit yeasty but after you put butter on it or toast it, it tastes great. A keeper recipe.

Carrot Cake III

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2007
This carrot cake was alright. I will make it again but not use soo much oil or sub the oil entirley for applesauce or something. It was just a little too high fat for me and i felt soo guilty eating it that i ended up wasting half the cake. It was good but I will definatly make it again a healthier way.

All Day Apple Butter

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2007
This recipe is amazing. I have made it twice now and its great. It takes a whole day but makes your house smell like cinnamon and apples. I reduced putting one cup of white sugar and 3/4 cup of brown sugar and I used a wisk at the very end to make it xtra smooth. It still had tons of flavor and delish texture. I put it in small mason jars and give it to my friends. I will keep this recipe forever.

Fruit Dip

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2007
This recipe is good. Just good. I like to make it and dip strawberries in it. I call it my strawberry dip. To make it taste not so plain. Instead of buying regular cream cheese to put in it, buy the strawberry cream cheese, or whatever flavor you like. Don't be afraid to mix it up. You won't believe the results and how differant it makes it taste.

Chicken and Dumplings IV

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2007
This is a good basic chicken and dumpling recipe. I added chicken broth instead of water, and I added my favorite seasonings to my bisquick mix. Only add enough milk to pull everything together. I know I added enough when after i'm done mixing, all the dough forms a very stiff ball. Be very carefull not to put to many dumplings in your pot or they will never turn out. Its really no biggie to have to make more or to add more later if you need to. I also thickened it up a bit with a little heavy cream. Very good. Will definatly make again.

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2007
This blueberry muffin recipe is the best. I have made it over and over and they disappeared in no time. They are great with blueberries, but try them with raspberries, raisens and walnuts, and pretty much any kind of berry. As others have suggested, don't fill them to the top. Fill them as you would fill cupcake batter in your cupcake pan. And make sure your butter is really cold and it will crumble just right. Depending on the humidity in your home, you may have to use less butter.

Russian Tea Cakes I

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2006
WOW...very good recipe. They are just like tea cookies. I too used crushed pecans and 1/2 c. powdered sugar and it was a very crumbley batter. But i popped it in the microwave for 15-20 seconds and it softens up. It will stay very crumby untill you get it in your hands, you got to apply pressure to it and work with it just a little befor you can roll it into a ball. Roll it in sugar twice. They melt in your mouth and are great with coffee. Everyone loved them. By far the best cookie i have ever tasted.

Golden Sweet Cornbread

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2006
This recipe is awesome. I too only used 1/2 c. sugar and followed the recipe exactly, and it turned out great. It was a little sweet and very light and almost cakey, but in a good way. It was not heavy at all and it was full of flavor.

Classy Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2006
This is a very good green bean casserole recipe. I added fresh diced onion to mine and crumbled bacon and i just put the frenches onions on top and it was fantastic. I usually use fresh green beans which would make this tast a whole lot better but it was still great with canned. Just remember that when using canned, the beans still put out thier own juices so....make sure that you strain them really good.

Satiny Chocolate Glaze

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2006
This chocolate glaze recipe was amazing!!! It came out perfect. I made it and spooned it over my cream puffs and it was a hit. Although mine came out more like a frosting, i wouldn't have it any other way. This will be added to my collection and will be used often.
