About this Cook
I have been cooking/baking for over 45 years. My mom and her mom were both very good cooks and more than anything started my appreciation of eating. I was around restaurants working in many capacities since my early teens and in 1999, after owning my wine shop for two years, I started adding food items. That mushroomed into Sunday brunch, lunch 6 days a week, appetizers available 6 days a week and dinner 3 nights a week. I finally sold my business in November of 2009, but I saved my favorite recipes and continue to find new ones. It is very difficult cooking for just two people now, so when I have the opportunity to prepare food for guests or to entertain a group of people, I love it!!!
My favorite things to cook
Lamb Shanks w/white beans, Chicken Tagine, anything with wild salmon, risotto, fresh veggies from the garden, pie, panko crusted eggplant, thin crust pizza (especially pear, brie, proscuitto!), veggie lasagna, family recipe spaghetti sauce, soups, roasted root vegetables, and on and on and on.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making lefse during Thanksgiving week-end using recipe of my grandmother-in-law. This starts off the Christmas baking. Brown Sugar cookies that everyone helps decorate. Girlfriends gathering in my kitchen to each bake favorites that we divide up and take home. Family trips include cooking food from our host state/country and taking home a cookbook. Always sitting down together at meal time to celebrate family, especially at the dinner table.
My cooking triumphs
Everytime a plate comes back to the kitchen with no food on it is a triumph!
My cooking tragedies
Many years ago I forgot to put the eggs in a chocolate cake - what a flat, ugly disaster!

Cabbage with Portobello Mushrooms
We paired this with a Chateau Greysac Medoc Bordeaux and a Louis Bernard CDR Villages that we did a tasting of. Both wines matched very well with the earthy, peppery character of the cabbage & mushrooms. Will definitely make this again!
