About this Cook
I was born and raised in Manila, Philippines and am currently living in California, USA. I've been married for over 20 years to a really sweet guy who loves everything I cook. I'm a mother of 5 kids and am raising them all to be good cooks in their own right. One of my favorite pastimes is browsing through cookbooks and recipe sites looking for new and different things to make.
My favorite things to cook
I especially love making desserts and baked goods. I enjoy baking even more than I do cooking. I'm forever looking for new recipes to try and this site sure meets that need. Nothing makes me happier than trying out a new recipe and having it turn into a family favorite!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Holidays are always a lot of fun in my family. Traditionally, we all share in the cooking so everyone brings something to each holiday get-together. I love all the traditional Filipino/Spanish foods like lumpia, adobo, pancit, pork barbeque, gallantina, embutido and of course, all the yummy desserts.
My cooking triumphs
I learned how to make excellent gravy from my mom. Friends always ask me to make cakes and desserts like my cream puffs, leche flan, pastel de tres leches and sans rival. I can also make great soups, appetizers, and casserole dishes.
My cooking tragedies
I once tried a recipe for these meatballs that had a vienna sausage stuffed in the center of them. They weren't bad flavor-wise, but they looked pretty weird on the platter. My kids called them "poopy logs." I never made them again.

Yogurt Cake
I've made this cake a few times and it always turns out moist and delicious. I've also made it with vanilla extract and vanilla yogurt instead of lemon and my family loves it even more. Good, versatile recipe.

Viva Madrid Spanish Chicken
I made this for my family last night and they loved it! I did add 1 tablespoon of Spanish paprika, a handful of Spanish olives and some sliced mushrooms. It turned out like an old-fashioned, rustic Spanish dish, reminiscent of my grandmother's cooking. Because it was so rich, I served it with plain white rice. Delicious!

This is actually more of a Monte Cristo than a Croque Monsieur. Monte Cristo's are battered. But the sandwich was still very good. My family really enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing!
