About this Cook
I'm a 30-year-old journalist from Pakistan. My job takes up a lot of time but I love baking and cooking. Sometimes when I've had a really stressful day at work, I find that baking a batch of cookies or a bunch of cupcakes is just what I need to make my troubles go away!
My favorite things to cook
Cupcakes, cookies, pies and cheesecake, Middle-Eastern and Italian inspired dishes, playing around with cuisine from different parts of the world.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Fruitcake and all manner of cookies for Christmas. My mum and I (and some friends) do the baking together and I just love the craziness that ensues.
My cooking triumphs
I've had a few - I can do a great Mousakka (from the Middle East), a very decent chicken chassuer (from France) and I recently experimented very successfully with Khao Soi (from Burma).
My cooking tragedies
Far too many to recount!

Tiny Tarts
Spectacular. My tarts just came out of the oven and they are utterly fantastic. I am amazed at the simplicity of this recipe. I made just three changes: I added 2 tbps icing sugar to the crust and one tbp corn syrup and some dark choc chips to the filling. Oh and I used walnuts because you can't find pecans here is Pakistan when I live. Thank you for this fab recipe, I think I am going to try the tart crust with some savoury fillings as well.

Tortillas II
Super recipe - didn't have to change a thing. For people who are having a hard time rolling these out, you might want to knead these for a bit to get the dough to a nice, silky consistency. I covered and kept them for about half and hour instead of 15 minutes. The finished tortillas were so good and they were not crispy at all. Used these with the Pico de gallo chicken quesadillas recipe from this site. Yummy! Having the leftovers for lunch today :)Almost forgot to mention - I substituted butter for the lard.

Pico de Gallo Chicken Quesadillas
These were excellent. I followed the directions exactly, although I omitted the cilantro and jalapeno because I didn't have those on hand - just used a tiny green chilli instead. Made these with the Tortillas II recipe from this site and wowie! Pico de gallo rocks!
