About this Cook
I've enjoyed cooking since I worked in a restaurant in my teens.
My favorite things to cook
Breads of all types. I'm also beer brewer - guess I enjoy yeasts and grains. BBQ and grilling.
My favorite family cooking traditions
A French bread made with beer and an old salt risin' bread recipe passed to me by my father. We also have a Thanksgiving tradition of scalloped peanuts and onions and an interesting sweet potato casserole that we never fail to fix.

Sirloin Tips and Mushrooms
Definitely use fresh mushrooms and add some sliced onion to the garlic. If more liquid is needed use beef broth. Very rich flavor goes well with noodles, rice, or mashed potatoes.

Kate's Easy German Sauerbraten
Not a huge fan of German cuisine, but this is very good. Followed instructions for marinade exactly, including juniper berries harvested in my yard, and let it sit for two days. Instead of a slow cooker I put it in a cast iron Dutch oven at 300 deg for about 4 hr. I believe pot roasts cooked this way are far superior to a slow cooker. And during chilly weather the heat and aroma in the kitchen are much appreciated. Served with red cabbage and noodles. Flavorful and falling-apart tender.

Grandma Jeanette's Amazing German Red Cabbage
This red cabbage recipe was ok but I prefer cabbage cooked other ways. Certainly is easy. I added a small amount of sliced onion. Be sure the apple is firm and tart.
