Hamburger Steak with Onions and Gravy

I made this last night to the recipe except I didn't use the seasoned salt since my husband has high blood pressure (used 1/2 teaspoon Cajun seasoning) and for the same reason I did't use garlic or onion salt, used garlic and onion powder. Oh, and I also used actualy sherry not cooking sherry - don't believe in cooking with anything I can't drink. I made 4 burgers instead of 8 since we both like bigger burgers. My husband and I both thought it was terrific. I made mashed potatoes to go with it and when I make it again I'll double broth so there is more of the wonderful gravy. The burgers were very tasty, not dry at all as I think someone complained of and I'll probably have the leftover ones just as burgers on a bun. I think the burger mix would also make a decent meatloaf and I might try that sometime.

Lime Chicken Soft Tacos

Have to give this one 5 big stars. It was great. I actually exactly followed the recipe which is extremely out of character for me and it was great, just as is. I'm making it again tonight for my husband and since I don't have any green onions at home I'll probably use regular onions and throw in some green pepper too. This is a nice hot weather dish since it's not a "heavy" meal and sort of cool in flavor. But I agree that this is probably more in proportion for 2-4 people even if it might make 10 servings.

Home-Style Vegetable Beef Soup

I have to say that I always get a kick out of people who rave what a good recipe something is and then proceed to list the 19 changes they made to it. That said, vegetable soup is one of those things that just seems to lend itself to improvisation by even the most inexperienced cook (which I'm not by a long shot), so all you really need is the different idea. This ones different idea is the ground beef, instead of the chuck roast I usually use and the tomato juice cocktail. And that worked out to be a really, really good idea. I used the hot and spicy V-8 like someone else did which added just the right amount of kick for me. I also used home canned green beans and way more corn, since I love corn in my veggie soup. And I added a can of chopped tomato. But I did follow this recipe closer than I usually do for soup. Oh and I did just brown the meat, fry the onions and then throw everything else in the pot to cook. Actually I brought it to a boil and then put it covered in the over at 350 for a few hours. Turned out great. I'll definately keep this idea in mind when I make soup again. I ended up with way more than the recipe, but then soup always does get away from me.

Slow Cooker Pineapple Pork Roast

This was really great. I followed someone else's lead and put in canned cranberries. Then when it was done cooking I took the sauce and threw it in the blender (I was making it for my sister and she doesn't like chunks of stuff) and made a thick sort of gravy to go with it. Acutually then I froze the whole thing in the gravy and it was fine when I thawed it out. However, my crockpot always dries things out so when I made it again for my husband I put it in the oven, covered with foil and it was even better.

Westrup Whole Wheat Bread

OK, I have to agree with the rest, this is a great bread recipe. I really didn't make major changes either. I didn't have any wheat bran, so I used oat bran, also I don't care for sesame seeds so I used flax seeds. Everyone loved the taste and it looked great.

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies I

I made these last night and they are awesome. I had some black cocoa powder that I had gotten from King Arthur and used 1/3 cup of that and 1/3 cup regular cocoa powder. I also used the swirled milk and white chocolate chips. These cookies didn't flatten out like most cookies that use butter and in fact I used a cookie scoop and then had to flatten them out with my fingers so they would bake better. I have a convection oven and lowering the temp 10 degrees and doing them for 9 minutes they came out crunchy on the edge and chewy in the center. These are definately a hit with chocoholics!
