Our Favorite Balsamic Vinaigrette

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2015
I altered this a bit based on the reviews, and it came out really well. I'm not a fan of dijon mustard personally, so I wonder if there's something else I might substitute to keep it from separating, but otherwise this was very good.

Healthier Best Brownies

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2013
I used oat flour instead of wheat, but I can't figure out what else might have changed this recipe. They are too cake-like and not very sweet, and they never seem to look done in the oven. I have had better brownies from a box, substituting applesauce for oil. Will not make these again.

Vegetarian Chili

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2012
This is a great place to start, but I personally prefer a little more kick to my chili. First off, I'm not big on chili powder, so I cut that in half from the start. I added a large can of hominy instead of a small one (accidental but still good!), half a green bell pepper and half a red bell pepper, plus 2 stalks of celery. Having done this, I found myself in need of some more liquid, so I took a gamble and threw in a can of of chili ready diced tomatoes. Not bad, but it still needed something. So I added about 1 1/2 T of basil, a dash more garlic powder, some cayenne pepper to taste, and some salt and pepper. NOW I can finally say it's EXACTLY the way I like it!

Sweet and Spicy Stir Fry with Chicken and Broccoli

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2012
Very good, definitely double the sauce. I only gave this 4 stars because I have a slightly sensitive stomach, and while this tasted delicious, my stomach had quite another opinion. Otherwise, the taste is fantastic

Spicy Indian Dahl

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2011
This is not like any dahl I've ever had before. I don't know any Indians that use this much garlic unless it's dahl tadka, which this is definitely not. The garlic was overpowering, in my opinion. Very strong flavor but at the same time it's missing some POP. This recipe could use a little more finesse rather than being beaten to death with a few flavors.

Em and Nic's Apple Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2011
The sauce is excellent, but I will agree with the other reviewers who thought that the chicken itself lacked flavor. Not sure if I should cook it slower next time or marinade it in the sauce before hand. That being said, the sauce is delicious it's just that the chicken needs to absorb more of the flavor. Also, I might try this over some jasmine rice or couscous next time to bind everything together.

Simple Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2011
This is a good starting point for some low carb, healthy chili, but it definitely needs some additions. I added a can of garbanzos, but next time I will add some celery and maybe some other bean varieties, as well. This was toward the spicy side, but I wish it had had more flavor. You can't compensate for lack of flavor by adding extra chili powder! That being said, with a little experimentation this could be a five star dish.

Fruity Curry Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2011
I don't like chicken salad. That being said, this was absolutely delicious! I omitted the pine nuts and used Fat Free Miracle Whip in order to make it more of a diet recipe, and I don't think it sacrificed one bit of the flavor! Actually, I think I'd prefer the sweet/tangy flavor of Miracle Whip to regular mayonnaise. I paired this with Special K Savory Herb crackers, which complemented the flavor very well, for a healthy, light snack.

Curried Mango Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2011
Super yummy! I used vindaloo paste instead of plain red curry paste--and boy did that add an extra kick to this dish! Also, I almost bought mango butter, but then I found the mango chutney in the international aisle, and I'm sooo glad I did because they are NOT interchangeable. Serve this over 1/2 cup of brown rice for a delicious dish that's only about 350 calories!

Actually Delicious Turkey Burgers

Reviewed: May 20, 2011
While they did have more flavor than the usual turkey burger recipe, I really think that they needed a lot more flavor and seasoning to really pop. I think this recipe is a good basis for adding some extra spices. On the other hand, if you find yourself disappointed with the flavor, a little dijon mustard gave this just the zip it needed in a pinch!

Okra and Tomatoes

Reviewed: May 20, 2011
This dish is a great way to get your veggies without adding tons of fat or calories to your diet. I recently discovered that I like okra (I never ate it as a child), and this is definitely a dish I will make frequently because it is delicious, healthy and SO EASY to make. This is one of the yummiest "healthy" dishes that I've made, thanks for posting it!

Double Tomato Bruschetta

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2011
I didn't have any sun dried tomatoes, fresh basil or mozzarella cheese, so I used dried basil and left the rest out. But instead of broiling, I brushed my baguette with olive oil and browned in a pan before adding the fresh mixture. I know it isn't quite what's called for, but it still makes one of my all time favorite snacks in the world!

Spicy Turkey Burgers

Definitely an improvement on the standard turkey burger, but the resulting taste wasn't quite worth the extra work, in my opinion.

Maharaja Curry

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2010
Easy to make, but not quite what I've come to expect from "authentic" Indian food. I felt it was missing something, but couldn't quite put my finger on what. It's a good place to start, but needs a little tweaking . . .
