This is a great place to start, but I personally prefer a little more kick to my chili. First off, I'm not big on chili powder, so I cut that in half from the start. I added a large can of hominy instead of a small one (accidental but still good!), half a green bell pepper and half a red bell pepper, plus 2 stalks of celery. Having done this, I found myself in need of some more liquid, so I took a gamble and threw in a can of of chili ready diced tomatoes. Not bad, but it still needed something. So I added about 1 1/2 T of basil, a dash more garlic powder, some cayenne pepper to taste, and some salt and pepper. NOW I can finally say it's EXACTLY the way I like it!
