I am originally from Costa Rica. Immigrated to USA when I was only 6 years old. I am now a "young" grandma of 4. I have 6 kids of my own. Grew up in New Mexico, now living in Utah. Married to a wonderful man. I enjoy the outdoors and crafty things, mostly crochet. I am also musical - sing and play the flute. I someday would love to be in a musical - esp. West Side Story. Currently, now that most of my children are grown, have gone back to school to attain my lifelong dream of becoming an RN.
My favorite things to cook
Goodness.. I love to try new things. I enjoy various ethnic recipes. I love Oriental cooking and making various candies for the holidays.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making Costa Rican Tamales.. quite different than the small ones traditionally Mexican style. These are made with various fillings (all in one tamal) not just meat. Fillings include: chicken, pork, chorizo, peas, bell pepper, spanish olive, carrot slivers, flavored rice and raisins or a prune.. sound interesting? It's a whole meal in one tamal. We have these made traditionally for Christmas-time.
My cooking triumphs
Everyone loves my Teriyaki chicken, lasagna, Navajo Tacos, Chicken Mole' and Christmas candies.
My cooking tragedies
Hmm... I guess I would say that trying to make divinity in Utah has been more difficult for me than making it in New Mexico.. haha.. turns out more like marshmallow cream sometimes. :) Any suggestions?
