Old Fashioned Raisin Pie I

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2012
Just like Gramma used to make.. except she made the pies on cookie sheets! Made this exactly as instructed but doubled the recipe as suggested. Could have actually only just 1 1/2'd the recipe for my 10" glass pie pan as I had filling left over (oh my! left over goodness? dreadful lol!) No fault of the recipe.. just me wanting more of a good thing! =)

Mincemeat Crumb Bars

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2011
I used a whole jar of good quality mincemeat (750ml) and the zest from a whole orange (as another reviewer suggested) otherwise everything else stayed the same. These are delicious!! So much easier than tarts. I would also line the pan with parchment or something to make getting out of the pan easier and easier cleanup afterward. Excellent recipe thanks!

Aunt Teen's Creamy Chocolate Fudge

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2011
Excellent! I followed the directions to the letter (without nuts) and it came out perfect! Surprisingly it was not as sweet as I anticipated - still plenty sweet though. The medium-low heat is certainly the trick. It took longer than 5 minutes - I eventually got out the candy thermometer - but the results are worth it!

Perfect with Debdoozer's Blue Ribbon Chili! Didn't change a thing but I'm thinking kernel corn will be a perfect addition for next time. =)

Mock Cherry Pie

I doubled the recipe and filled 30 tart shells. Very pretty for Christmas and really really tasty! A really good faux cherry pie but not quite. I'll still make these again. Thanks for the recipe!

Dad's Asian Slaw

Delicious! My 16-yr old son made this and was looking very proud of himself for making such a great salad. He followed the recipe exactly. Saved the noodles for adding in 1/2 hour before serving and sprinkled with sesame seeds. Thanks!

Licorice Caramels

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2010
I wanted a strong black licorice flavour so I went with the 1 tbsp of extract and ended up eyeballing another good dollop of extract to get what I wanted and I still could have added more. Very good candy recipe however for caramels. The only puzzling thing was the direction that said "without stirring". On medium heat, I got little dark chunks that almost looked like it was scorching but upon tasting, it wasn't burned. I couldn't stand there and not stir so I stirred until I got to the correct temperature. Very tasty and the recipe makes tons. Thanks!

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2009
This was delicious! We had no ham but had a 375g pkg of sausage meat so I fried that up and used that in place of the ham. I can only imagine how much better with ham so I can't wait to try it again. Family loved it thanks!

Raspberry Squares I

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2003
my mom has made these every Christmas for the last 35 years and are one of our family's all-time favorites. The only difference is we use granulated sugar instead of icing sugar in the topping and 2 cups coconut instead of 1 1/2 cups. Make these in a 8x8 (or 9x9) pan tho so they're nice and thick or double the recipe for a 9x13 pan

Friendship Soup Mix in a Jar

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2003
This looks very pretty in the jars. I followed the tip of one of the reviewers and used 1/2 green and 1/2 red lentils - made a big difference in presentation. I made up a jar for my family and my pot wasn't quite big enough so only used 2 quarts of water.. turned out thick and rich.. yumm

This is dee-lish! Seems not alot of people have beef broth, myself included so I used water and boullion as well. I added a can of mushrooms with liquid while cooking and at the end just prior to serving, a can of mushroom soup for flavour and thickening. mmmmmmmm thank you!
