Lit'l Smokies® Mummy Dogs

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2010
So cute! I called them little babies in a blanket. You can only see the faces if you dab them with mustard on a toothpick. Ketchup doesn't show up. They burn easy on the bottom so I'm deducting a star. And the croissant dough is a hassle to deal with but it's worth it for a party.

Quick Pickled Eggs and Beets

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2010
Love pickled eggs. Grew up eating them at holidays. The purple color from the beets is fabulous. If you think this sounds gross your wrong, remember it's refrigerated so it's just like a hard boiled or deviled egg. I don't add cinnamon.

Slow Cooker Ham and Beans

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2010
I've never really cared for ham and beans but I liked this recipe. The brown sugar made it tasty instead of bland and hot. We ate it with cornbread in the dish. I used leftover pieces I had from a big ham. I didn't have time to cook it in the crock pot so I used a jar of beans and did it on the stove top and it worked fine. It was good winter comfort food.

Moroccan Tagine

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2010
We love this. I like to mash the squash in the stew and it makes a thick creamy soup like texture. The hardest part of the recipe is cutting the squash. I use a bag of matchstick carrots instead of chopping one. We love the beans. Chicken broth works just as good and I leave out the cayenne and we still love it. This is a great recipe too get out of the same ole' same ole'.

Great-Aunt Nina's Noodles and Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2009
This was good. I followed the recipe exactly. Since it's not "soupy" it almost has a creamy texture the next day. So I think it will replace my previous creamy chicken noodle soup recipe because this one is healthier since it doesn't include whole milk. It was salty though, next time I won't add salt since the broth has so much.

Italian Style Meatloaf I

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2009
I loved this recipe! And I finally got my meatloaf HATING husband to eat meatloaf and he liked it! The only changes I made was to substitute my Great Aunt Betty's italian spaghetti sauce for the ketchup. And then 10 minutes before it was done smothered the top of the loaf with more sauce and shredded mozzarella. It had a great consistency and flavor.

Caramel Popcorn

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2009
This was delicious and easy. I had never made carmel corn before and I was worried, but it turned out great. I used a big disposable aluminum Pasta Pan from the grocery store to cook it in and that made it very easy to handle large servings.

Wake-Up Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2009
I thought it was okay, my family liked it. I used crumbled sage sausage instead of ham and browned the hashrowns first. It felt like alot of eggs and meat. It needed some more starch, like more potatoes or served on bread or a tortilla maybe.

Broccoli Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2009
We liked it. I found it virtually impossible to use a hand mixer to blend the broccoli however. I had to get out the blender afterall and that worked great. It's a nice healthy recipe. Next time I think I'd use some cheese in it though. This time I served it with Grilled Cheese and Tomato sandwiches (recipe on this site) and it was yummy. My 8 y.o. gave me 5 stars.

Sloppy Joes II

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2009
It wasn't what I expected Sloppy Joes to taste like. It just tasted like "ketchuped" meat. Not a fan. But it's cheap and uses ingredients you usually have on hand.

Grilled Cheese with Tomato

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2009
We loved it! I used italian bread and it was great. I wanted to serve something other than the traditional american grilled cheese sandwich with my Broccoli soup. It was a hit with my husband and 8 year old.

Guy Approved Meatloaf

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2008
Not a hit. I was trying to convince my meatloaf hating husband to like meatloaf with this recipe, it didn't work. It was way too greasy.

Nasty! It's dried out asparagus with tons of bread crumbs on top. Everyone hated it.
