Chocolate Syrup

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2014
I will never buy chocolate syrup at the grocery store again! I was out and my daughter drinks milk much better with a little chocolate in it, so I decided to try my hand at making my own, and came across this recipe. It's amazing, I might not be able to share with her! Velvety and smooth and delicious

Chocolate Oatmeal Porridge

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2013
I made this according to directions, with the exception that I realized as I began to make it that I only had old-fashioned oats rather than steel-cut. So the cooking time was quite a bit shorter. The flavor was very good, really like good rich hot chocolate with oatmeal in it. Very nice, will make it again.

Mini Sour Cream Biscuits

Reviewed: May 20, 2012
I've been making these for YEARS! The best baking mixes to use are the ones with flakes of shortening in them, and always make sure to melt the butter... I know, I know, for buttermilk biscuits you'd never do this, but in this recipe.. trust me. For something different, I add cheddar cheese, and old bay.

Grandma's Corn Pudding

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2012
Fabulous! I love it just as it's written, but it's also easy to customize to make more healthy, with less sugar and fat. I can close my eyes eating this and be in my Grandmother's house again as a child. Thank you for this!

Banana Pudding II

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2011
just likes my grandmother's famous recipe. I only modified it by separating the eggs, adding two more to the pudding itself and using the original eggs for the meringue my grandmother always used

A very nice, basic recipe that worked really well for a thrown-together meal. Open to lots of additions and substitutions, which is great!

Mashed Sweet Potatoes

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2010
Really very good. I adjusted the seasonings a bit, I like cloves and nutmeg with sweet potatoes, but the orange juice was very nice, and the marshmallows on top made it a hit with the kids

Slow Cooker BBQ Pork Chops

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2009
I use a variation on this recipe all the time, and I have a few tips. I would never bother to use my crock pot if I'm going to use it on high, I like to throw things in it for 8-10 hours and you never, ever get a dry result. I also wait until the last couple of hours to add a sauce, as the flavor is diluted by the cooking process. Any kind of sauce will work with this, including a cream of mushroom soup gravy. Experiment and you'll find a variation that you love. Make sure not to add too much water, or you end up with mush as well.

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Nut Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2009
Fabulous! I made these with few adjustments. I used organic sugar rather than white, 1 tbsp more oil, and self-rising flour rather than AP (also losing the baking powder and salt), as this is what I had on hand. Very nice, moist and luscious muffins bursting with chocolate. Made them tonight for breakfast tomorrow and my boys are going to be ecstatic if Daddy leaves them any.

Sloppy Joe Sandwiches

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2009
Amazing how such a simple bunch of ingredients can make something so very good. My husband, who's really a picky eater, ate three huge sandwiches filled with this. This will definitely go in my list of family favorites, and it was easy! I didn't change anything at all, and it was phenomenal.

Beefaroni

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2008
My family loves this recipe, once I've modified it to fit our tastes. I diced a sweet yellow onion to cook with my ground beef, and made my spaghetti sauce from scratch with fresh tomatoes and a can of diced tomatoes, and minced roasted garlic. I also added a can of tomato soup, not the condensed kind, but a good one. Then I added shredded carrots and broccoli, and I used colby jack cheese, and mild cheddar. This is a great recipe to modify to your tastes, probably never gets made the same way twice. I've done this a few times, and I add more to it every time.

Easy Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2008
Not the best cookies I've ever had, but definitely one of the easiest. My husband and boys ate them faster than I could make them, and that's always a good thing! Thanks for an easy, family-pleasing recipe.

Sweet Pasta Salad

Really yummy! I added broccoli and snow peas and water chestnuts and pretty much anything else I could think of in one or the other of the times I've made this and it always turns out great! This it the best pasta salad I've ever made. I think the dressing would make a great coleslaw dressing too.

Golden Sweet Cornbread

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2007
This is the best-tasting sweet cornbread recipe I have ever tried. I also ended up decreasing the baking powder to 2 tsp, and I occasionally substitute half and half or heavy cream for the milk if I have some left over. This will go in the family recipe book and stay there forever.

Eastern North Carolina BBQ Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2007
Finally a darn-near perfect recipe for Eastern NC barbecue sauce! I'm a born-and-bred Eastern NC girl, and this tastes like home. I love the heat, this is great, just like a real pig-pickin', not that weak stuff you find in restaurants.
