Baked French Toast

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2010
This is perfect, and there's no need to change anything. I've been making it for a few years now and my coworkers beg me to bring it to work all the time. The only thing I do differently (and just to make it easier on me) is ask the bakery dept at the grocery store to slice the bread for me and I generally choose an italian-type bread. That way the slices are nice and thin and seem to soak up the egg mixture evenly. This is one of my favorite recipes! And I love that it is SO EASY!

Amish Sugar Cakes

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2009
These cookies are just ok. But having been born and raised in Amish country I can assure you that they are NOT real Amish sugar cakes. They came out way too flat and aren't dense like the authentic version. I even tried putting the dough in the fridge for awhile but that didn't help at all.

Orange Cream Fruit Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2008
I have been making this recipe for years and it is a favorite everywhere it take it. I use red delicious apples cut into chunks, and I also cut my peaches into bite-sized pieces. It is absolutely critical to drain the fruit very well...I sit it in a strainer while I prepare the sauce (and I do everything in one bowl...mix the sauce, and then throw in the fruit). I do recommend adding the bananas as late as possible to keep them from turning brown. If you keep the other fruits covered with the sauce, they won't discolor. And keep it cold--when it gets warm it gets runny. Be prepared, everyone will want the recipe, and you'll be forced to make it everytime you go to an event!

Glazed Apple Cream Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2007
This is soooo goood. I am not a pie maker, but I had a bunch of farm-fresh apples to use so I decided to give it a shot. It was delicious. The apples I used were sweet, not tart, and I increased the number of them. You could easily use 4-5 apples, and I'd even suggest it. The cream inside really stays separate from the apples and is a delicious surprise (I did serve it cooled as recommended). I also used Jiffy brand pie crust mix which was quite good. My mother has always been the "apple-pie queen", but this recipe rivaled hers--and I came home from our family get-together with an empty pan!

Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2007
This is a wonderful recipe that takes so little effort. I have made it twice, once with beer, and once without. It's good either way, but the beer does make it better. I made it for a family get-together and decided to decrease the chiles to better suit everyone's taste. I used one can regular tomatoes and one with chiles, and it was still very good. This gets pretty spicy with both the chiles and the taco seasoning. I also add a can of tomato soup, about 3/4 cup of cream (sounds crazy, but good), and thickened it with a little cornstarch. Everyone loved it. Don't leave out the "fixins", adding the cheese, tortilla chips, and sour cream really adds to it.

Aunt Hazel's Apple Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2007
This is the most delicious cookie I've ever tasted. The whole family loves them. I have made them several times now and we can't get enough! The cookie is wonderful in and of itself but the glaze makes it a standout. Thank you!

Bow Ties with Sausage, Tomatoes and Cream

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2007
This recipe is absolutely wonderful. I always have a hard time deciding what to do with sausage, now I know! My husband loved it and can't wait for me to make it again. I followed the recipe just as it's written. The cream truly does make it delicious. Thanks so much!
