Cinnamon Rolls III

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2007
I don't think they are like cinnabun... but everyone has their own opinion. Easy to make. I put the dough in a bowl, covered it with plastic wrap, filled my sink with a few inches of warm water, then placed the bowl in the sink and covered with a towel.. dough rose well.. then after rolling up buns, I put in 9x13 dish.. turned my dishwasher to the very end of the dry cycle, and put the dish in there.. it got warm, but not TOO warm.. and they fluffed up again nicely. had to bake an extra 10 minutes though.. not sure why.. my oven is usually hotter than everyone elses.

Pumpkin Layer Cheesecake

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2007
Some said too much pumpkin flavor, some said too much cheesecake flavor.. so I guess it averages out. My problem with this recipe was that it wasn't very.. well.. pretty. It tasted ok though and was very simple.

Powdered Sugar Cookies I

Reviewed: May 27, 2007
Well, after watching a show about cookies on tv, me and my fiance both wanted cookies (I'd like to blame it on being pregnant). Since I didn't have oatmeal or chocolate chips or anything like that, I figured sugar cookies would work. I looked at a bunch of different recipes before choosing these. My fiance thinks they are pretty good. I, on the other hand, won't eat them. They had a weird taste to me... but then again, I am pregnant and everything tastes a little different (be it for the better or worse). I halved the recipe and got 3 dozen exactly. It says to flatten them, but when I did that for the first dozen, they spread out on their own even more... making super-flat semi-crumbly cookies. after that I rolled them into balls and rolled the balls in sugar... worked much better! I won't make these again, just because of the very strange after taste, but my fiance says "yeah.. they taste like any other sugar cookie.. they are average" hence, the 3 star- average rating.

Golden Broccoli Bake

Reviewed: May 3, 2007
I have to say, when i mixed the first 4 ingredients, it looked like WAY too much beef (although in retrospect this could just be because I'm pregnant and beef isn't very appetizing to me lately). Anyway, it looked like it needed more, and seemed like it would taste like it, too. Usually i don't alter recipes too much until after I try the original, but I really wanted this to work. I ended up preparing a box of shells & cheese and mixing it in as well. There is no doubt in my mind that if I make this again, I'll do the same thing. I'm not a big fan of the potatoes on top, but my fiance likes it, so i guess that just varies by the person.

Butterscotch Apple Cookies

Reviewed: May 1, 2007
Let me start off with saying that I am almost 4 months pregnant. I am so picky right now that I pretty much have to go to the sotre to buy my meals on the spot because nothing ever sounds good that i have in the house. Anyhow, my fiance loves oatmeal cookies, so I looked up a recipe on this site and made some since I couldn't find my usual recipe (they weren't very good, btw). Anyhow, after flipping through a lot of cookie recipes I stumbled across this one, but had to bookmark it for later since my mission was oatmeal cookies. I came back to it a couple days later, after my fiance with his sympathy cravings (HAH!) ate all the others. I am so happy I made these! Even though my fiance ended up eating most of them, when I did get a chance to sit down and eat one it really hit the spot.. and that's a lot coming from my picky self. I wasn't so sure about the glaze after reading other reviews and ended up halving the glaze recipe and just drizzling a little over the cookies. I liked this recipe so much, I even whipped out my camera and took a picture. (how rediculous is it that I squeeled when i saw my pic had been posted for the recipe? ..Silly hormones..) I think next time will add extra apple and maybe use raisans.

Oatmeal Butterscotch Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2007
I have been impressed by just about every recipe I have ever tried from this website. Well.. I was barely satisfied... let alone impressed. These cookies weren't bad, they just weren't good. I made sure to rate this recipe after I had a chance to taste them again the next day (since a few reviews had said they were a lot more flavorful on the second day). Still .. blah. I won't be making these again.

German Pancakes II

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2007
I would have actually given this recipe a 4 1/2 if I was able to. It's like french toast without the annoying pan flipping, and without the bread. This recipe makes enough for my fiance and I. My only problem is that I can't seem to get the batter to mix properly. I've made this a few times in various orders (starting with the directions listed in the recipe) and it's always incredibly lumpy. Every single time I've had to use a seive to get out the chunks. I've also made this is dfferent pans (9x13, 8x11, and 2 9x9 pans). I prefer using 2 9 in. square pans. I've used syrup on mine, as I would french toast, but I plan to try lemon and powdered suga next. I don't know that I'll ever go back to regular french toast again.

Applesauce Bread II

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2007
I read the reviews on this before I made it, and was fearful of it being to dry or heavy. This was not the case. Yes, it was a bit dense but that just made it more filling. You can't exactly expect it to be fluffy without yeast. I actually added 1 cup of applesauce to mine, and slightly less cinnimon- with slightly more sugar. I also sprinkled a light layer of powedered sugar on top (which melted in the oven and gave it a sugar glaze- tasted and looked good). I didn't use a breadmaker. i put it in the oven as another reviewer suggested at 350 for 50 minutes. My Fiance said it was "alright.. pretty good i guess".. I loved it and will definetly make again.

Butter Frosting

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2007
This frosting was alright. I made multiple batches of this and it came out different everytime.. too thick or thin, too hard or too soft. It was rediculously difficult to spread on a cake. It's tasy though. i'd reccomend this for cookies rather than cake.

Simple White Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2007
This recipe actually deserves 4 1/2 stars. I made it twice in the same night. The first batch was perfect! 5 stars all the way. The batter was rather fluffy. I made it the second time around (I don't think I let the eggs beat as long) The batter was a lot thinner (although both times I added about 1/4 cup of extra milk). After baking, The first batch was fantastic! Great cake, easy to frost. The second time around, however, deserves about 3 stars. As others have said, it had a cornbread type element to it. It was bad, but it was incredibly hard to frost. I made 9x13, 8x11, 9x9, and 4x9 of this cake and it cooked well and evenly in every pan. All I can say is, pay very close attention to the directions, sift your ingredients, and let your eggs beat awhile. If your batter looks somewhat like yellowish coolwhip, you're gonna have a great cake :)

Beefaroni

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2007
I gave this 3 stars because I'm kind of neutral. I actually would have given it 3 1/2 if I could have. Besides spicing the ground beef, I only made 2 alterations; Instead of using a 'package' of macaroni, I used 2 boxes of 'mac n cheese' noodles, and then added one packet of the cheese mixture to the noodles. It helped a lot. Also, As reccomended, I put ritz crackers on top (also used whole crackers instead of a spoon or fork). I would recommend adding sour cream to this (my boyfriend agreed.. he also added tabascco for an extra kick).

Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2006
This recipe is just as good, if not better than boxed pancake mixes. I followed the user comments and subsituted margarine (for the shortening). This recipe produces very fluffy, great pancakes. My only issue with them is that it only makes four decent-sized pancakes. Have made these twice since find the recipe 3 days ago. I don't know if I'll ever go back to the box.

Aunt Millie's Broccoli Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2006
I would have actually given this recipe 4 1/2 stores if i could have. I added just a touch of pepper and no salt. Also, i added 2 cups of cheese instead of 1 1/2, with an additional half a cup on top. Also I added an additional 2 cans of cream of chicken soup, along with the cream of mushroom. I didn't use the bread crumbs... just substituted with ritz crackers. I took this to thanksgiving dinner with the family. They were a big hit. my boyfriend actually complained that there were none left when we went home. I wouldn't reccomend this for a main dish really, but it (with the few changes) was pretty good.

Albondigas

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2006
My boyfriend and I thought this recipe was pretty good. Instead of using bread crumbs, I used crushed saltine crackers. Also, I think I'll only used 1/4 of the onion next time. Also, Initially it didn't have quite enough flavor, and since I used the last of my beef bouillon, I added a few packets of beef flavoring from some ramen noodles (did not add the noodles). And last but not least, I added a can of chopped tomatoes and a can of corn. This was best served with corn bread (I made corn muffins). Also, just to let others know: It might be just becasue i added a few extra ingriedients, but it made about 10-12 full bowls of soup. We had left overs for days. i think it was actually better the second time around because I was able to remove the solidified fat after it had been refridgerated.

Manicotti II

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2006
This recipe was pretty good- considering how simple it was. I did however, make a few changes. I only had lean ground beef on hand, so I just seasoned it. Also, I added a little bit of the spaghetti sauce to the filling to make it easier to stuff the pasta. Also, A spoon nor my fingers were working for me so I put the filling in a ziplock baggie, then cut about a half inch off of the corner. I then, basically, used it as a pastry bag to stuff the noodles. worked wonderfully:)
