Spicy Beef Filet in Oyster Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2008
Hard to pinpoint why I wasn't crazy about this recipe - I think I wanted more of an oyster sauce flavor but the pepper in it was pretty overwhelming. I know that's why the person who submitted the recipe likes it so much, but I would tone down the pepper next time (and I like spicy). Served it with some nice steamed veggies over brown rice and it made a very nice meal.

All-Day Apple Butter

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2007
Mmmmmmm yummy! I had just gone apple-picking and had tons of apples to use up; this recipe was a great way to do that! Just set it in the Crockpot before going to bed and finished it in the morning - so easy! Cooked down nicely, although mine needed an extra hour or 2 in the cooker to get rid of some excess liquid in the mixture. Took a whisk to it when it was all done because some of the apples looked a little chunky and it came out wonderfully! Planning to use these for stocking stuffers at Christmas :)

Apple Loaf

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2007
Tasty, but not spectacular. Like other reviewers, I love my baking spices so I added more cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and ginger. Just didn't have the emphasis on the apples that I was looking for. This recipe doubled well.

Famous Chicken Adobo

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2007
I don't know, I wasn't crazy about this. Mine turned out pretty salty (and I used the low-sodium soy sauce, too) and I felt like it didn't have much flavor, even with the garlic and pepper. Just seemed like it needed something else, although I don't know what. Turned out well enough that I will eat the leftovers, but I won't make it again.

Maple Salmon

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2007
This was yummy! I added ginger to the marinade, too, to add a little more flavor to it, and it turned out great! This was one of my first tries cooking fish, and it was easy and really very tasty! I will definitely make this again :)

Mom's Apple Crisp

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2007
Flavor was great with this recipe, although I found the whole cup of water used at the end of the recipe left my apples swimming in the bottom of the dish. I think next time I will use less water. I also loooove cooking spices, so I added ginger and nutmeg to the crisp topping, and it was yummy!!!

Simply Traditional Lasagna

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2007
Had to cook this without the olives due to some picky eaters in the bunch I was feeding. I think it is probably a TON better with them. Used regular old lasagna noodles (without cooking them) and added a little extra water to make sure they cooked. This turned out lovely - I will definitely make it again. Plus it seems like a great recipe for playing with - add spinach to the marinara sauce, using different meats and cheeses, adding onions, etc.

Almond Chocolate Cookies

A nice, cakey cookie - the flavor is wonderful! I added some slivered, blanched almonds for some crunch.

Cranberry Drop Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2006
These cookies are pretty good - nice and colorful with the bits of cranberry. I found 375 to be too hot, and the first batch burnt - 325 degrees for about 15 minutes worked much better. I think if I make them again, I'll add a but of ginger, cloves, or nutmeg - they need a bit more zing!

Nutmeg Logs

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2006
Nice delicate flavor - almost like a shortbread texture, but with a nice nutmeggy taste. I got about 40 cookies from this recipe. One thing I wished I had done - I made them for Christmas cookies, and I wish I had rolled them in colored sugar for a festive touch!
