My favorite family cooking traditions
I cooked a lot with my mom and sister. I have several all-day baking days toward the holidays with family and friends.
My cooking triumphs
Mother's Day Brunch turned out great with recipes from this site. So did Thanksgiving and Christmas. I feel much more confident hosting holidays.
My cooking tragedies
I cannot make a cinnamon roll that my husband accepts. He takes one bite after my every attempt and states, "Not even close to Grandma's!" then refuses to eat any more.

Old Fashioned Onion Rings
I wanted to like this, but I felt that the directions as written didn't come out the way I expected. Maybe I misunderstood something, but I read the recipe a million times to make sure, and I cook A LOT, so this is nothing new to me. I felt that the egg and milk dip was too thin and it didn't really look like any kind of coating to me at all, so I dipped back and forth twice. This made a thicker coating, but I was still underwhelmed. I made some the exact way the recipe was written and some with extra dipping. Not sure what I did wrong. I guess I'll keep looking for the right recipe for me.

Jimmbo's Garlic Knots
I made these using Jay's Signature Pizza crust recipe from this site. They were awesome! There was a lot of garlic left in the bowl, but that was probably for the best. They were still very garlicy just from the garlic-infused oil. I made about 20 of them, and they were gone by the end of the meal eaten by my three girls. Two of them are under five and they loved them too! My four year old said next time I make them she will eat them all herself.

Soft Sugar Cookies IV
I made this recipe almost exactly like it says. All I did differently is that I added a teaspoon of lemon extract to give the flavor more dimension. I think it added a lot. The cookies taste great, but I was hoping for a thinner cookie. The way they turned out kind of looks like mini-biscuits. I even flattened them with the bottom of a glass before baking and still they were puffy, but still dense, not cake-like. I like the density, if only I could make them flatter!
