Jelly-Filled Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2011
I scaled the recipe down and made two muffins. I used almond milk and almond extract instead of vanilla. This definitely tastes like a jelly-filled doughnut. Thank you.

This recipe surprised me. It was a great way to use leftover mashed potatoes. Thank you.

Sweet, Sticky and Spicy Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2011
I took advice from others and tossed the chicken in flour before browning. After the chicken was brown on the outside, I added the sauce to the pan. I used ground ginger. I would definitely make this again, but I would probably reduce the garlic and hot sauce a little. Thank you.

Banana-White Chocolate Pancakes

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2011
I really liked the flavor combination in these pancakes. I had issues with cooking them because I roughly chopped my banana. I recommend you cut the banana into very thin and small pieces. If you do not have baking mix: For each 1 cup of mix you need, use 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1 tablespoon shortening.

Strawberry Ice

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2011
This is very good. The flavor reminds me of a strawberry daiquiri (without the alcohol). I am looking forward to using fresh picked strawberries and other types of fruit. Thank you for the recipe.

Super-Simple, Super-Spicy Mongolian Beef

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2011
This is one of the best recipes I've found on AR. The grocery store I shop at does not carry flank steak so I used a thinly-sliced eye of round cut. I only marinated this for 30-45 minutes and it was very good. I had it with lemon pepper broccoli and rice. Thank you!

Low-Fat Brownies

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2011
I used a mashed banana in place of the egg substitute, added strong coffee, and decreased the sugar to 3/4 cup. I also used a smaller pan. These brownies taste a lot better after they cool for a while.

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2011
I used all-purpose, bread, and whole-wheat flour. I made this in my bread machine. The dough was very easy to work with. I took the advice of others and baked it for a few minutes before topping it. Toppings: I sauteed kale in butter, lemon, and pepper. I added a little bit of whipping cream and cayenne pepper to a jar of mushroom alfredo sauce. I also had stuffed chicken sausage on hand. I layered the pizza with sauce, kale, sausage, and cheese.

Banana Split Bars

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2011
This review is definitely for people who appreciate changes. I was looking for a recipe that could be made with fat-free cream cheese and cover the flavor of it (made the mistake of buying it). I added chopped walnuts to the crust. For the cream cheese layer, I used powdered sugar, a little whipping cream, and almond extract (stronger than vanilla). I left the banana and pineapple layers alone. I made my own whipped cream with powdered sugar and almond extract. I didn't top the dessert with anything as I had no walnuts left and no cherries.

Artichoke Chicken

I do not keep mayonnaise in my house so used alfredo sauce in its place. This is one of my favorite recipes from AR so far.

My puppy loves these treats! I did use peanut butter instead of beef flavoring and cheese. The dough was very easy to work with! Thank you!

Unbelievably Easy Slow Cooker Black Forest Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2011
Made this for the recipe group. I'm sorry for the low rating, but this did not turn out for me. To be fair, I did use a sugar-free cake mix. I tried to leave it alone for the entire time, but it still had dry spots after two hours. I blended those into the partially cooked mix. I tried it after three hours and didn't care for it. It didn't taste like a cake. It was more like partially cooked brownie mix. The fruit is great together and I saved that. I'm glad it worked out for others!

Sarah's Applesauce

I do not like pre-made applesauce so I decided to give this a try today. I used Cameo apples. Thank you for the great recipe!

Salisbury Steak

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2011
I added fresh mushrooms to the gravy. I couldn't find cream of french onion so I just used the regular soup version. The meat had a really good flavor, but I think cream of mushroom soup would make a better gravy than what I ended up with. Also, I will probably use more bread crumbs next time.

Apple Bavarian Torte

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2011
I scaled it down for two portions and didn't use a springform pan. I also used blackberries instead of apples. I cooked them for a few minutes in water, sugar, and cinnamon before I topped the cream cheese mixture. I also left out the almonds. I am looking forward to trying this with different types of fruit!

Chocolate Frozen Yogurt

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2011
I used 1/4 cup of sugar instead of 3/4 cup because my chips are milk chocolate. I only had french vanilla yogurt so I used that and decided on almond extract. I took the advice of others and added cocoa. I don't have an ice cream machine, but this still turned out well. I'm excited to try different flavor combinations! Thanks!

Pesto Pasta

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2011
I made this for the recipe group. I used rotini pasta because it is what I had on hand. I thought I would follow the advice of other reviews and melt the cream cheese with milk before adding to the rest of the sauce. It has a very fresh and light taste. I think it would be really good with roasted peppers instead of the tomatoes. Thank you for the recipe!
