About this Cook
Hi There! I am a married woman who has been cooking for my family for 30 years now. I like to bake occasionally, but homecooked basic meals are my favorite. Meat, potatoes and vegetable meals or casseroles are what I am usually cooking. I will often go to advanced searches here on Allrecipes, type in the ingredients that I have on hand and look for new ideas for what I have.
My favorite family cooking traditions
When our family comes together for Christmas, we love to have a pot of Christmas Wassail warming throughout the day. It is sweet warm and spicy... makes the house smell good too! We HAVE to have deviled eggs when we meet for any occasion.
My cooking tragedies
The worst thing I can remember, I had made a beef stew and I thought I would add a little curry for a different flavor, (it was completely new to me). I had forgotten that there wasn't a shaker top and plopped the entire contents in the pot. I tried to scoop it out as fast as I could so I wouldn't waste all those good ingredients. It was so strong of curry, had to toss it, just aweful!

Creamy Rice Pudding
Woke this morning craving rice pudding for breakfast. Last night we had an unseasoned rice mix for dinner (dried carrot, and other veggies with rice but no herbs or spices) I thought "Well, we make quick breads with veggies" and went for it! What a wonderful pudding! Creamy and flavorful. I got 5 large servings and that is without raisins. Really, 1/3 cup of sugar for 5 servings isn't bad-but next time I'll try 1/4 cup sugar. Remember to temper the egg and milk mixture before adding it to the cooked rice and milk. I added a little cinnamon and a vanilla pod to the milk.

Cabbage and Kielbasa
This was sure good! Just like the recipe called for except had to use real potato's browned with the onions and regular cabbage. Great comfort food!

Easy Swedish Apple Pie
Oh yes, I tried this recipe and BOY am I glad! Took some ideas and added almond extract to the batter with a little spice (cinnamon and nutmeg). This tastes like a wonderful apple pie without making a traditional crust with all it's the mess! I used the bowl I mixed the apple slices in to also beat up the batter (after pouring apple slices into the greased pie dish),easier clean-up! The crust was a little thick, so dollop it on then spread, but the heat evens it all out. It comes out sweet and slightly crunchy YUM! It is definitely a sweet dessert, but my tart apples needed that!
