Talking about myself is not something I get to do very often. I am a mother of 2 boys and stepmother of 2 more. I love my life and am passionate about food and what it can bring to our lives. I am a caterer and am very busy with a few different food ventures. Sitting at the table with my family is one of my favorite things to do, I know the importance of eating together, so why not enjoy great food while doing so.
My favorite things to cook
Everything, I guess it means the most to me to cook something that reminds the person eating it of their childhood, especially my husband or my dad. For my husband that is usually simple southern dishes like fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, mustard greens.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and we always cook turkey and cornbread dressing, cranberry sauce, and many others. I enjoy cooking a gourmet meal for my family for Valentine's Day. My 2 young boys, age 6 and 11 spend loads of time in the kitchen with me. My 11 year old, Jackson has even begun to help me with my catering business. They are both developing a serious passion for food and cooking and I love it. The best part is they don't even want fast food.
My cooking triumphs
Making cornbread dressing exactly like my late mother in law. She could not read or write so I had to learn by watching, listening, and tasting. My husband is transformed to his childhood whenever he eats it.
My cooking tragedies
Too many to name, the only way to learn to cook is trial and error, needless to say I have had many, many, many errors. Most recently I scorched a pot of shrimp and corn soup that I delivered to 30 customers b/c my father told me it was fine and I was too picky. I couldn't live with myself after and remade and delivered it 2 days later. Everyone was happy.
