About this Cook
I am a military wife currently living in YEE HAW Texas with my husband and daughter. I enjoy cooking and baking a great deal and NOW I am sorry that I did not pay more attention while I lived at home with my mom. I still call her for her recipe on this or that. I have books and books on different recipes that I have collected over the years. I can bake just about ANYTHING and can cook pretty good too. When I am not cooking I am Volunteering at the Airman and Family Readiness center on Dyess AFB. I love that center and the people I work for.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake! i love making desserts! and after i make all these delicious treats i send them all away to my husbands squadron. i am a diabetic who loves to bake cookies cakes and pies...go figure...i make them but dont eat them.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I LOVE THANKSGIVING!!! mainly it is because i get to cook for a week and watch it all disappear within a few hours, and then after all of its gone i hear, "man that was good!" thats what i love THE BEST!!!
My cooking triumphs
i have perfected banana nut bread! my mom has a recipe for it that she has been making ever since i can remember and i always thought it was perfect, but i tweaked it and well it came out absolutely WONDERFUL!!!! im not saying that my mothers is not good but i think that i have actually made one that is just a little bit better. i also make a kick butt Mexican Flan! no ones is better! and you are not going to get what i make out of a BOX!
My cooking tragedies
i still have not been able to make a Mexican nino envuelto (wrapped baby)it really is a good dessert just has an off the wall name...but the stinkin' cake has never successfully made it out of my kitchen without meeting the trash can first! I WILL BEAT THAT CAKE EVENTUALLY!

Grandmother's Pound Cake II
Great pound cake. It was a little heavy and the next time I will halve all the ingredients so that I dont end up with 3 pound cakes. I think that I will also sift the flour. That may be the reason it was a little heavy. I also used my mixer to make this but the last step to mix flour and milk in I will forego the mixer and go with hand stirring. Hopefully this will lighten the cake some. I added coconut flavor to one cake almond to another and vanilla to the last. they were all just YUM.
