Dark Rye Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2007
I gave this a four however I will have to work on it a bit. I have a wheat free diet. I substituted regular all purpose flour with gluten free. I added an extra ½ cup rye. I was almost out of all purpose so I had to add half cup mixture of smelt and oat flour. My dough was too wet. The taste was great I will have to check consistency next time. I cooked in the oven 375 did not need 30 mins. Made a pretty loaf. This is the best rye recipe I have found to fix into a wheat free loaf.

Croutons

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2007
I had bought a wheat free bread hoping to enjoy my first sandwich in a long time. However my white rice bread was not sandwich worthy. Not wanting to waste 5 dollars it did make excellent croutons and bread crumbs with the outers. I added a little fresh basil to the butter while melting and the garlic powder. I used a little more butter to soak in the bread. I have allergy legal croutons. =)

Banana Bread Crumb Pudding

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2007
Wanted this recipe to work because I have several allergies and this helped. I used 2 cups of bread crust crumbled (white rice) Read review and doubled milk, used three banannas, no eggs or apples. Doubled honey and brown sugar. Left other spices the same. May sub some pear sause for a bananna next time. Cooked at 350 took out 5 mins early. This was bannana bread pudding. If more banannas were added you could add more bread crumbs up your milk a bit and it would be a bit taller. I served with choice of cream or ice cream. Wonderful

Stuffed Green Peppers I

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2008
This was good. My husband loved it. I did some changes. I only hsd one can of tomato soup. So I use a big can of crushed tomato most of it in the sauce and the rest in the soup. I added garlic and italian seasoning some red pepper. I think I will pre cook rice some and cut peppers in half next time. I had 5 large peppers and they were not full. I also used Turkey. Next time I will put Greek seasoning in lamb and maybe some feta or white cheese. WIthout the seasoning tho and the extra stuff I don't think I would have liked this much.

Creamiest Rice Pudding

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2008
Wow. I made this in a crock pot. I cooked it on high 3 and half hours. added eggs at room temperature. Per another review I cook eggs on high for 20 mins. It was a tad grainy. Next time I will drop it down to low before I put the eggs in. I did use cinnamon sticks and one quart of cream. This is a keeper love the crock pot.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2008
I have been making this apple pie every holiday for three years. It always disappears. Now I just have to make a wonderfull crust. What I have learned. I don't use Granny Smith. I toss my apples in cinnamon before I mike hafe the sause in them. Then I put them in the shell, put the top on and pour the rest over the top. This is great.

Best of the Best Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2008
I gave this recipe three stars for the following reasons. The crown didn't pop like I like them. May be due to my hot oven but I had the top brown quickly in the center of the oven. They didn't hold together very well. They were like McDonalds biscuits fine until you take a bite then they fall apart. I did not use cups and the popped right out of the pan I did use criso. I will keep searching for the best one. With the flavor of these but pretty. I did see some recommendations however the recipe as it is was only a 3.

Cheesy Italian Tortellini

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2008
I rated this a 5 with changes. I am allergic to beef and pork =( I used chicken cooked in italian seasoning. Tomato sause plan kind and diced tomatos. Add the usual oregano, pinch of rosmary, minced garlic bay leaf touch of sugar. I don't measure seasoning but that is close. Did not have time to slow cook so I boiled the tortelli and precooked sause. Then added doubled blend of cheese half in and half on top and put it in the oven on 350 for 20-30 depending on cheese type. I guess this is no longer the recipe I started with but it used most of my leftovers.

Blueberry Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2008
I adapted this recipe to fit a bread pudding recipe it actually wanted me to put plan blueberries and strawberries on my bread pudding. =( So I doubled this one with 2ea cups blueberries and strawberries. I cooked the strawberries down until they were part of the syrup just a nice flavor. I am allergic to oranges so I used pomegranate, blueberry juice and vanilla instead of almonds. This was so good on my pudding =) I have use the regular recipe on other things both ways is great.

Boudreaux's Zydeco Stomp Gumbo

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2008
Wow this was great I even was missing several things and had to sub. I was looking for something to use my leftovers from the week. I can’t wait to make this with everything I will tell my substitutions for those who are in the mood for gumbo but didn’t have everything. I doubled the chicken then I boiled chicken and sausage with all the left over chopping from the veges to make broth. The leek tops help a lot. I had no celery =( so I added some celery salt and a vege Bouillon cube. I used one large can diced tomatoes and all the peppers in the house a variety of medium and hot peppers. I was short on Cajun seasoning so I added file powder. I also used the medium sized shrimp. Mine was soupy I could almost but some orzo pasta and make Cajun soup. I used Gluten Free flour mixture may not work as good. No chili peppers and dried red pepper flakes that I grew and dried. The only thing I will do next time I like mine thicker I will only with 2 quarts of broth. As this makes a lot have some freezing containers ready.

By far the most flavor of the easy key lime pie recipes. I used the 9" graham craker crust. It fit fine. Next time I will bake one. The recipe is so easy it is worth it.

I loved how easy this was. I thought it was a little thin at first but it worked quite well. I tried something totally new. I had sesame linguine and some spinach asago chicken sausage that I had to get rid of. I also saltade asparagus and chopped in small pieces. I did not mix just placed together after. Cocoction was a hit in my house everyone loved. Added Salt and pepper fresh Garlic a few sprigs of curled & italian parsley as well as shreaded Aged Parm Cheese. Will try a touch of Asago next time.

Old-Time Buttermilk Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2008
This pie had a really good flavor it was sweet. I love sweet but this was really sweet. I will make this again as I always have buttermilk in the house. One thing I will try due to the age of this recipe. Sugar is very different now than it was in the 1800s early 1900s. Bought from the Caribbean or Africa it is more the natural sugar you can buy in health food stores or in ethnic speciality stores. I will lower the sugar down to around 1 cup or I may try this 1.5 cups natural sugar.
