About this Cook
I am a budding writer. I have wonderful ideas but terrible grammar. I recently was told I had a large number of allergies now my cooking has taken on new meaning. I have so many!! The key work for me is moderation. My husband enjoys me re-learning how to cook as I have not found many bad ones on this site.
My favorite things to cook
I like to have the vegetable create the meal. Lots of veges from my garden define the dish. I love to cook new things and mix new flavors. I am not always successful but it is fun to try. I enjoy preserving food from my garden. I attempt various different veges that are not found at the local stores to improve our dinner plates. Always and adventure.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother was a natural cook. She never measured she would smell the additions. She taught me to use spices she would mix some you would never expect. Her pasta dishes were excellent I have changed them up a bit but I never measure either(for sauces). One day I will write down the pasta dishes and share.
My cooking tragedies
A boyfriend I had when I was 21 Loved German Chocolate Cake. I wanted to make my first cake from scratch. I used self rising flour and added baking soda=( . I made the best frosting from scratch. Well the bubbling started and I hoped it would just bubble off and the remainer would taste good. Well the last time I opened the door I had a fire in the oven. For his birthday my boyfriend got to clean the fire baked German Chocolate Cake from the oven.

My Own Famous Stuffed Grape Leaves
I made these exactly as the recipe called. I loved the rice however my leaves were too tough. I used leaves from a jar (not fresh). Also, 1 3/4 hours is not accurate as this is just cooking time not cooling the rice or wrapping the leaves. Plan for 2-2.5 hours. I will try these again however I will boil the leaves prior to wrapping per other recipes instructions. I resisted the urge to Americanize the rice and I am glad as it could easily stand alone as a side dish. I rated it as a 2 because the leaves made it impossible to eat so I waste my time.

Southern Style Holiday Greens
Ok all you other southern residents can stop reading this post. I made these and they were very good. I have been trimming back on my ham hocks and bacon after watching the last southern generation battle heart disease. I even used .......turkey bacon and frozen turnip greens. I was expecting lighting or something to strike me when I put in the pan. I did have to add a extra spicy for my taste. I put in some no salt ham flavor....to make up for the turkey and some pepper flakes.....I left out the butter as I didn't need to boil. 30 mins I was finished great vege for a busy night in the new south.

Blueberry Streusel Cobbler
I loved this did exactly the recipe. The crust was great... I used walnuts on top. I do want to tinker with the sauce a bit. Bet brandy added would be great.
