About this Cook
I'm a certified dental assistant working as a dental receptionist. I run (5k's to 1/2 marathons), do triathlons (sprint distances so far), attend carshows with my husband Rob (we restored a '77 TransAm) and whatever other trouble I/we can find. To relax, I enjoy reading (especially cookbooks / magazines), take cooking classes, music, and I've just started standup paddleboarding yoga, just to name a few. I love sharing my baking--especially at Christmas. I bake, therefore I run!
My favorite things to cook
Baking is my thing--especially cookies! But, I will try just about anything (still working on pastry). Otherwise, I love trying different things in my slow cooker: stews, soups, chocolate cake, desserts, roasts. My most requested meal is my spaghetti and meat sauces with garlic bread but nobdy complains if/when I serve something else.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every time I have to cook for others. I always have new recipes for everybody to try. People always know they are my 'food guinea pigs'.
My cooking triumphs
Every new dish and/or meal is a cooking triumph. I love trying different things.
My cooking tragedies
Where shall I start? Too many to list but I do believe I am getting better. As long as it is somewhat edible....

Slow Cooker Sweet and Sour Pork
Not bad, but not quite what I was expecting flavour-wise. Did try to thicken it up but sauce was still runny.

Strawberry Bread
Ooohhhh sooooo good! Only changes were too add extra strawberries and reduce the cinnamon (rather taste the fresh fruit than the spice) to less than 1 tsp. looking forward to getting another bucket of strawberries and baking more!

Grandma Johnson's Scones
Absolutely wonderful! Made the basic scones (no extra additions this time but will definitely in the future) and served with homemade strawberry jam & raspberry jam. Num num num!
