About this Cook
I can get a little obsessive. Last year my goal was to find the perfect sugar cookie and brownie recipes. I made 7 different varieties of sugar cookie, before committing to 2 recipes; 1 for drop cookies, 1 for roll out. Brownies were a bit easier, found it on my 3rd try. My rule was to stick to simple ingredients, so all those recipes w/marscapone are still awaiting to be tried.... Recently I'm interested in finding a solid elegant dinner menu I can prepare and serve to a good size dinner party. The plan is to try making a few different main courses (lamb 1st, roast chicken 2nd, some sort of beef 3rd) in the next couple of months, then once I have an idea of which I enjoy making and might be a big hit, I'm going to start investigating great side dishes to compliment the meal.
My favorite things to cook
@ this moment it's a turkey-chili-curry I invented a couple of years ago. It's easy, cheap and fantastic for re-heating @ work for lunch. A bowl of that w/ fresh homemade bread (from the bread maker) and some fresh pineapple for dessert. Better then getting take out.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love theme dinners. Finding theme and creating the perfect menu, music, decor, etc... Best attempt: Texas BBQ - killer. Weakest attempt: White Trash Dinner. Turned out good - just think more creativity is required.
My cooking triumphs
My best friend only asks that a cook and bake for her as gifts. Can't even wrap my head around that. :)
My cooking tragedies
Too many to count. My oven often doesn't work. Urg.

Lemon Cake with Lemon Filling and Lemon Butter Frosting
I followed another review that said to double the icing and do a crumb layer or icing. EXCELLENT TIP! Loved that. Didn't like the cake sliding apart or the taste of the white cake. I'd do this again, but look for a better 'cake' recipe. Icing and lemon curd were fantastic though! A

Restaurant-Quality Maple Oatmeal Scones
These are the best Maple Oat Scones I've found so far. I'm looking fwd to messing with the ingredients to see if I can get closer to the Starbucks Maple Oat Nut Scone.

Guinness(R) and Chocolate Cheesecake
Was a big hit. I made it for my Dad's birthday and he LOVED it! Actually everyone but me loved it. I think it's b/c I really don't like the taste of Guinness. I'll make it again for everyone else again! Don't be worried about the "too much liquid". It turned out very similar to the Eggnog Cheesecake also on this site. Bon Chance! A
