About this Cook
I am an army vet of 4 yrs, married to an active duty soldier. When I became pregnant with our child, I decided it best to give up my career as a soldier to raise our son at home. Our son is now a thriving 5 year old who has a ZEST for life and now attends a full-time kindergarden program, leaving me at home with a bit more time to explore the kitchen. We have been blessed with a child who will eat about anything, I'm talkin' salad right outta the problems with veggies here!! However his dad is a different story. It has been VERY difficult to find different recipes that 'float his boat'..and when I do..I am in HEAVEN! Let's hope that leads me to new recipes we will all enjoy ;)
My favorite things to cook
Anything that my husband says he likes...which I find nearly IMPOSSIBLE. OH well.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Lasagna on Christmas..forget about a turkey or ham.
My cooking triumphs
I have come to the point where I no longer have to completly depend on what a recipe says. I have learned to substitute and make up stuff as I go along if need be. WOOHOO!!
My cooking tragedies
oh..don't make me go there.

Cheddar Bacon Hamburgers
I made a few modifications, because I didn't have the horseradish, so I put A-1 as another reviewer suggested. I would like to try it as the original recipe writes, but wanted to review it, as the base for the recipe is STELLAR! It was a hit for the whole family!

Summer Squash Bread
I made several modifications in making this recipe-cut the sugar to 1 1/2 c, using half white and half brown sugar, I also used 1/2 whole wheat flour and 1/2 AP Flour as well as using 1/2 unsweetened apple sauce in place of 1/2 the oil (all attempts at making the recipe a bit healthier!) I wish that I would have cut the nutmeg down to 1tsp, as it was a bit overpowering, and I like nutmeg! Next time I may add a 1/2 tsp of salt or so, just seemed like something was missing. I never made the recipe 'as is', so my rating is for the final product after the modifications!

Polish Cabbage Noodles
in reading other reviews, I added a bit to it...fried Turkey Keilbasa (SP?) and some little slices of turkey bacon, removed, then added the butter, onion and cabbage. I splashed on some AC vinegar (1tsp maybe?), sprinkled some caraway seeds, put a dash of paprika and sauteed until the cabbage was tender-ish (I like a little crunch)- I put the keilbasa/bacon mixure back in and warmed it all up and served it next to the buttered noodles, so others (like my sometimes picky kids) could decide if they wanted to mix it or not. Thanks for the recipe!
