Nana's Acorn Squash

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2007
The best!! Perfect in the fall as a side dish along red meat, although we cut back a little bit on the brown sugar or else the inside part of the squash gets too sweet.

Italian Confetti Pasta Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2007
Easy and delicious, what more could you want? I found this to be really good as a light lunch, or double the amount to take to a luncheon, family gathering, etc. Recommended it to friends, and it remains to be tested and true.

Turnip Slaw

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2007
We just didn't enjoy this. Usually, we both like turnip, but cabbage is the usual and only main ingredient for coleslaw, and we're going to keep it that way. Only thing satisfying about this was throwing it in the garbage.

Fennel Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2007
Classy, not to mention quick and easy to make! I don't really like anise, but really enjoyed this soup, it also reheats and freezes well; an added bonus ;)

Honey Walnut Shrimp

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2007
VERY sweet. We cut the amounts of sugar and honey down to almost half and they still turned out very sweet. Couldn't find mochiko either, so I used plain flour...my end result didn't turn out too well. Luckily the shrimp weren't too expensive where I got them from but I will not be making this again.

Crab Rangoon III

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2007
Substituted imitation crabmeat for canned, but otherwise followed the recipe as follows; served them for a party and they went quite fast! I however was not overly fond of the cream cheese in there, but everyone else seemed to like them, so they are a keeper recipe.

Barb's Guinness®-n-Cabbage Delight

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2007
A yummy side dish, we had the family over when I made this and was careful not to overdo it on the Guinness! However, the beer and cabbage are an odd combination, but the flavours mesh well. Thanks for sharing, Barb!

Spicy Oil and Vinegar Bread Dip

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2007
The perfect companion to crusty bread, and definitely tastier than just butter! Really easy to make, too. A regular in our house.

Sean's Falafel and Cucumber Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2007
Addictive and easy, we like the falafels served in pitas. I cut down on about half of the oil called for due to personal preferences, and sometimes I get lazy and use store-bought tzatziki (cucumber sauce). It still tastes very good!

Corrigan's Minestrone

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2007
Warning: Makes a lot yet can be easily frozen for leftovers. This stuff was GOOD, and really easy to make for a weeknight. The most time consuming part is chopping the vegetables, and while the soup cooks, stir every so often. I didn't have veggie broth so I used a can of chicken broth instead, also added in a can of chick peas. Very yummy, will definitely be making again.

Corn Relish II

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2007
Oh, this is delicious!! In the summer, we serve it over hamburgers. Beats the stuff from the jar any day, too.

Potato Plum Dumplings

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2007
We just weren't very fond of these. They turned out to be too sweet, sickening really. Shame, because I do like dumplings and plums seperately, however the idea of combining them into a super recipe was a bit much. Thanks anyways though.

Avgolemono

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2007
So yummy, and really versatile! I must admit we tweaked this a bit; the orzo can be substituted for rice or any other type of pasta. And we added a lot of garlic to the bunch. Nonetheless the end result turned out pretty tasty, a nice alternative to chicken or matzo soup when someone in the family gets sick.

Brazilian White Rice

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2007
Oh Nanda, this was delicious! As everyone else said, it is a good way to spice up boring old rice. We put in extra garlic as a personal preference. Very good as a side dish, or a light lunch all on its own. Mine seemed to make a lot for leftovers, so I put the rest in chicken soup the next day and it livened up boring old broth too. Definitely a keeper recipe.

Poor Man's Beer Batter Fish

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2007
I wouldn't call it quick; battering the fish can be a little time consuming. Won't deny that is indeed tasty though, and easy for the most part! Will definitely be making this again.

Easy Welsh Rarebit

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2007
As personal preference, we grated even more cheddar cheese over the top once the rarebit was on toast, and it turned out quite well! Our only problem with it was that it was just a little bit salty...otherwise no complaints, and we followed as is.

Creamy Pepper Jack Cheese Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2007
My boyfriend called this 'melted cheese mess'. It was terrible and oily, and we ended up throwing out the entire pot in the end. Don't think I will be making this again.

Mommy's Surprise

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2007
Did not like this, at all. The mushroom flavour was overpowering, it was too bland, and crusty bread ended up going soggy!! That never happens! I highly recommend anyone skip out on this one, and I will not be making it again.

Zesty Coleslaw

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2007
The perfect summer coleslaw, for those who prefer a little more tang to the usual sweetness of coleslaw. We add extra horseradish for kick, and a bit of minced onion. Star reviews all around!

Coquilles St. Jacques

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2007
I left out the button mushrooms, but only as a personal preference. Note: this dish is REALLY rich, so you might want to take it easy on the amount of cream and cheese that is put in there. Nonetheless, it is delicious. For fancy presentation, try scooping out portions into large scallop shells.
