About this Cook
I love to cook. I am also a firm believer that the quality of your eqipment has a big effect on you edible results. The most important thing though is the quality of your ingredients. I try not to consume HFCS or anything hydrogenated. I believe in eating real food not processed garbage. I also believe wholeheartedly that one's approach towards cooking the dinner for one's family is indicative of how well that family is functioning. One doen't have to be Donna Reed or June Cleaver. But a little effort and some care for what you are feeding them shows how much you love them.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite things to make are cookies. I also love to experiment with new items and cusines. I'm perfecting my cake making skills.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Sadly I wasn't old enough in time to learn how to make my Grandmother's tortillas. My dad's enchiladas are another story though.
My cooking triumphs
Thanksgiving 2006! I was in charge of everything for the very first time. I pulled that dinner off in our old house in a tiny kitchen only about 6X6! Even when my mother in law exploded a pyrex dish of dressing we still had enough to make up for it. No one found glass in their food either. Ever since then I am commanded to make cranberry sauce and whipped cream for every family function. My pumpkin pie is getting to be popular also.
My cooking tragedies
I am not such a good bread maker.

Chocolate Banana Bread
I have made this recipe twice and both times got great reviews. I don't think there is enough cocoa powder though so I double it now that I have madeit once per directions. I also used 1 cup of mini chocolate chip since I had those on hand but I don't think it made much difference.

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread
SO AWESOME! My results were identical to the Pumpkin Muffins from Panera. I made this recipe almost as written. I omitted the cloves(icky) and substututed applesauce for 1/2 the oil. I also didn't have a loaf pan so I used muffin tins. They baked for 30 minutes at 350 and came out perfect. My very picky mother ate 2 of them! She never eats my food unless it's very basic stuff. Next time I will try using all applesauce instead of oil and fresh pumpkin instead of canned.
