Quick and Easy Home Fries

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2008
If you slice the potatoes instead of cubing them the cooking time is about right. I did 15 mins cover on and 10 off. I like this version of home fried potatoes...if you want the crispy version fry them in oil.

Slow-Cooker Pepper Steak

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2008
Although not exactly the traditional pepper steak ...I really liked this recipe, add the peppers and onions about 2 to 3 hours from being done, otherwise they turn out mushy. I also cut out the extra tspn of salt...really not needed. Aside from that I cut out the garlic powder and used 3 cloves fresh garlic and a 1/2 tspn of ground ginger. This is a keeper...thanks for the recipe.

Mimi's Slumgullion

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2008
I pretty much followed this recipe to a T and it came out great (I added 2 tbspns of garlic)...the recipe calls for 1/4 cup of oil which I would still use for the cooking of the potatoes, but I drained the grease out before letting the dish cool and set in the skillet. Another suggestion is to add the peppers a little later in the cooking process since they got very mushy, but overall this recipe is a 5 ya'll!!!!

4.5 stars on this....I doubled the broth and added carrots and some garlic...really good for how fast this recipe is.

Beef Bulgogi

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2011
Very good, double the marinade so you have extra sauce to soak into the rice. I also added a few very thinly sliced carrots....just my preference.

Oregon Salmon Patties

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2008
I am originally from Maryland, so I am a huge crab cake fan. Essentially, this is a "poor man's crab cake," and surprisingly very good. Once everything is mixed the patties are hard to keep together, don't worry once you put the patties in the frying pan they firm up nicely. I added a little lemon juice and a tablespoon of Old Bay. Thanks for the great recipe.

Love this recipe; added about a 1/4 cup more mayo, but that was the only change/addition I made.

This was ok, won't be added to the "rotation," but it was a nice change of pace.

Chicken and Dumplings II

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2009
Ok I simplified this to fit my tastes.. First i ommitted the green peppers and tomatoes, just doesn't fit for me. I used 5 cups of broth/water & boullion so that it had a bit more gravy. I deboned my chicken and added it to the broth before dropping the dumplings. Also, to make the gravy a bit thicker I added a heaping tablespoon or so of the bisquick mix and just mixed with some water and threw it in to thicken up the sauce. I just used tried and true bisquick for my dumplings, 2 1/4 C mix and 2/3 cup of milk and spoon drop them into the broth. This is my go to recipe with the small changes I made....this is the real deal. I can't believe people on this site love the slow cooker version of chicken and dumplings so much. To me the taste of that is bland and the dumplings are slimy and doughy. This is the homemade style I grew up on and worth the time. Thanks for the recipe!

Slow Cooker Swiss Steak

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2008
I added a heaping tablespoon of cornstarch to the crockpot because I like a little thicker sauce/gravy (in quick rioux form, i.e. a lil water mixed in before adding to crockpot) a tablespoon of garlic, 1 beef boulion cube and a pinch of season all salt for extra flavor. I went with this recipe because I did NOT want to have to add any canned soups....great without it.

Good flavor, but the best thing about this is how juicy the steaks are after soaking in this marinade.

Slow Cooker Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2009
Very good basic vegetable beef soup. I added a tablespoon of garlic powder, worchester sauce, a bay leaf and some season-all salt to taste. I also used 2 lbs of stew meat and it came out perfect...really good on a cold night.

Authentic Louisiana Red Beans and Rice

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2009
This is about as close as you are gonna get to the authentic stuff. Per six cups of water I used 4 chicken boullion cubes, I also added a teaspoon of chili powder and half a teaspoon of cumin. I also used two cans of kidney beans instead of dried beans since that is what I had on hand. Aside from that I followed the recipe...good stuff, thanks for the recipe it is a keeper for our house. Oh yeah I strained out and mashed half of the beans toward the end of cooking and returned to the pot for the creamy consistency.

Good wings...definitely saves money instead of buying them from a wing joint. Be mindful of what hot sauce you use, the wings can be hot, but oh so good!
